Hi just wondering if anyone else is going though this, My sailor has been in over 1 year and now he stopped texting & skyping with us. He said we are bothering him, I only asked to Skype every 2 weeks & I text him good morning & would like him to do the same every few days. He is not on a ship either. Is this normal?

I think once our sailors get settled in and aren't homesick anymore, they tend to be busy - just like young men and women are stateside. He has work/duty, he may be taking classes (mine is attending college online fulltime), he may be involved in volunteer work (I know mine is - both through his command and through Boy Scouts), he's made friends and has a social life during his off-duty time, he may be exploring the local area....
We miss our Sailors very much but just like college students or young adults who have moved out and into the workforce, they're stretching their wings and experiencing being independent. It's not that they don't love us, they're just growing up.
I write once a week to mine (every Sunday) and mail packages every so often. I'll FB him - send him a link to a news story or a meme I think he would be interested in. Sometimes he replies, sometimes he doesn't, sometimes he'll FB me...
My experience is much like NavyMum (until last week when he went under water :0 )
I text him when it's natural, when I think of something that would interest him or have a question for him. We don't Skype or even call much. I let him do his thing and hear from him every few days, when it's natural to do so.
I agree it's hard to let go, but I don't think pressuring them to communicate works either. I was the same way with my own mother. We talked when there was a reason to do so.
