Anyone know where we can order a traditional meal for Thanksgiving dinner?  I really would like to order a meal to take back to the hotel.  If no such place, can you offer a suggestion for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner out.

Try Lakehouse @ lakehouselb.com or the Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center for Thanksgiving meals. I hear Walmart and Boston Market are close.

Confused!  We haven't had a phone call or letter from our SR for several weeks now ~ however his   last letter said he was staying in GL for Thanksgiving.  He's  on ship 03 division 028.  Does this mean he can fly home?   If he stays in GL, what happens,  will he be there alone?

He wont be alone. There are several organizations in the area that have an "Adopt a sailor" program and take bus loads of recruits. He can go off base to dinner with one of those. Also, families in the area have the opportunity to adopt a sailor as well. They can take 2-3 at a time, and I am sure there are many that offer. There is always an opportunity for him to go somewhere, if he wants to.

Thanks Harley, Whew!  My SR has always been very independent, sometimes to the extreme.  His Sister is due very close toThanksgiving, he's always thinking about others before himself!  Can't wait to see him in December, then his off to TX for HM school.

Is he a 12-12 grad? My son is. Mine will be going to South Carolina after for Nuke school. So proud of these kids! We live 30 minutes from the base, so if you have any questions about the area, please let me know. I will be happy to try and answer them.

Hi, my SR graduates 12/5. Will he be able to spend Thanksgiving with us- we will be in GL for my oldest's PIR on 11/26.

I had to fill out a request form to adopt him, and have not heard back confirming it yet, but I believe you should be able to. You can email them at rtc.pao@navy.mil. Thats where my request went.

ps - the Public Affairs Office for questions is 847-688-2045. I see on my for it says the request had to be in by 11/07, but I would give it a try.

I made reservations for Thanksgiving Day at Coopers Hawk Winery & Restaurant, in Wheeling, Illinois, they are serving  traditional Thanksgiving dinner entrees.  You can see if they still have reservations available.  Their phone number is (847) 215-1200.  Check out their website as well www.coopershawkwinery.com

Boston Market has full Thanksgiving meals for 4-6 people (you can even order one to serve 12 for $99.99).  You have to order in advance to get these prices according to the email I got from them.   901 N Green Bay Rd Waukegan, 847-623-7000.

My son graduates 12/12 and we are going for Thanksgiving.  We are staying at Homewood Suites which was one of the hotels in the pamphlet we received.  It has a separate kitchen (everything but a stove), a separate living room and separate bedroom.  I think we may make what we can here the day before and make the rest at the hotel unless anyone knows of somewhere that is open.  Anyone else staying at Homewood?

One of our grocery stores (HyVee) offers Thanksgiving meals that  you can guy, then all you have to do is warm in oven. I ordered one for four people. We are staying at Candlewood Suites and it says they have a full kitchen...we plan on warming our meal there. Hope that helps!
