I was just wondering when my son gets to bootcamp and can call to say he is there, does he need a phone card to be able to call with?

If I remember correctly, my son used his cell phone telling me he made it ok- He used a calling card for all other calls.
Ok. He is not going to take his cell phone. He said that would just be more to send home. I will get him a calling card just in case to take with him. Thanks.
I let my son take his cell phone just to be sure I was going to get that phone call- He took a back pack so he could put everything that was being sent home in that.... It worked out well- About a week after he left, we got a box with his back pack and all of his belongings inside..
That first brief call is on the Navy. All the rest require the phone card.
I just got my son's call and was surprised that he used his cell phone....his call was straight forward and matter of fact, I made it safe, You will hear from me in 3 weeks and you will be receiving my belongings in a box and "I love you"! I don't think they can say too much :-)
Carolinamom,
My daughter arrive at GL on Tuesday around 8pm, still patiently waiting to get a phone call. She did take her cell with her, I am losing hope that she will give me the "i'm here" call. Now I guess I am just waiting on "the box". No news is good news I guess, if only I could stop crying, boy this is harder than I thought! When does your son leave? From what I can understand, most recruits call home.
I read on here that sometimes they get to call after being there 3 weeks. So maybe you will hear from her then. I am sure she is just fine. My son leaves Dec.18th. My phone service doesnt allow collect calls and my cell phone doesnt pick up at home so I was a little worried about getting the call. I know I have a while to worry but like to be ahead of things.
