This letter from ALFA came on  October 25, 2010 at 4:39pm

Dear Ladies,

Thank you for your support and we apologize that some of you are upset about the turn of events with the Lincoln Pillowcase Project. ALFA is committed to supporting you in your efforts to make this project go. We would like to make you aware of the “behind the scenes” actions that will hopefully boast moral and get us back on track to make sure that the sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln know how much we appreciate and support them. First off, we would like to address the issue of Mrs. Stephanie Wilcox, the former project coordinator. It was brought to our attention that Mrs. Wilcox had not obtained approval from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln. We are aware that she obtained approval from the Strike Group 9 Legal Department but approval needed to be obtained from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln as well. After lengthy conversations with Mrs. Wilcox to obtain the information ALFA needed in order to take this project to the Lincoln for approval, she told two of our Board Members that she was quitting the project because it was too stressful. Finding a new coordinator was a logical first step for us as we did not want this project to go to the way side and reality is that command approval would not have been granted to Mrs. Wilcox. Command approval was granted to Heads at Ease as they are an established group with credibility behind them. Heads at Ease has done this project for many other service members that are serving our country. Yes, you could have sent the pillowcases you made out to your individual sailors or even to their friends but without command approval or support there was no way that all sailors would have received a pillowcase, which is the goal that we are working towards. Second, is the issue of the project name change. The name of the project was changed because not all of the pillowcases will be done in time to make it to the ship for Christmas and as an added bonus, we do not offend those service members who are not of the Christian Faith. Thank you again for your continued support of our service members! If you have any further questions please contact ussalfa@hotmail.com.

Cordially,
The Abraham Lincoln Family Association

The notes and labels that Dori has designed, have been amended to say Lincoln Family Love, as this project has now been opened up to the entire Lincoln family, not just N4M.

You know Sue, I don't have a clue as to how many I actually sewed myself.  I would guestimate about 300/350+  with coordinating close to 700.  I wish I had kept track but then again, its prob best I don't know exactly how many or how much it cost me!!!!

hear you.  you did great.  I won't tell you how many I actually made,. haha.  but do you want to know how many I have mailed myself in the 2 1/2 years that I have been doing this?  now that's an impressive number.

thank you for all you have done for this great project.  If you hadn't asked me about it in Feb, it wouldn't have gotten started.

Yeah, we're 2 crazy ladies!!!!  Even all the chaos and drama seem to have been forgotten in my mind after getting these notes from our kids!!!!  I'm glad we went through with the plan and didn't give up!  We had lots of great sewers making this happen.  Thank you too!

It's funny you should ask that Sue because you had sent me some to help with my count and I FOUND them yesterday tucked away for safe keeping. Well they are safe in my sewing room. I am so sorry that I forgot about them. Do you want me to hold on to them or mail them back to you?

I mailed out 281 but made 279. Granny V made 2 for me that were embroidered. I wouldn't have a clue how much they cost me because, some I bought at the store, some off ebay, my sister bought some, a friend's mother passed away and she let me have first dibs on all her fabric and what I already had in my fabric stash. I even bought twin flat sheets at Walmart for $3 and was able to get 4 cases out of each one to put with a band.

I can never keep up with the cost of the pcs, as I too get fabric from kinds of places.  they are a gift from the heart.

since they are all helos, I would like those saved for a helo squadron.  my friend Barb made them.

ME is working on a very special project which she will announce soon.  Would you mind holding them for her project.  I know we will need helos for that.

Kim, ME asked if you would mail those helos to her.  thanks.

A Navy mom friend of mine posted this on FB and it seemed fitting here:  "A person who does things that count, doesn't usually stop to count them."

I signed out and had this email.  it is from my son's dentist who was our POC for the medical/dental units!  I had emailed him today to see if their pcs have arrived:

I was actually just about to e-mail you. I got them yesterday and got them out to everyone. We all wish to thank you and everyone who put this together. It means so much to us when we are shown that people are still thinking and praying for us. We get so used to not being welcomed or looked down upon for the job that we signed up for. It's good to see that people understand what we and our families have sacrificed.
Plus me being a big time momma's boy even at 24 I love seeing that there are all sorts of "mommies" that show their love to their sons and daughters.
Again thank you very much!

Whoohoo!  it's a funny story how I got him as a POC.  Dori made him a very special pc.  So glad they arrived safely!

What a great Christmas present for all the sailors!

now that statement Ma Mary, is a true one.  I am so excited for them and like thinking of how colorful the ship will be now.

got this email back from my dentist about his personalized pc that Dori made for him:

I love my pillow case! It means a lot to me just getting little reminders that I have a family waiting for me to get back.

WHOHOO!   got the most awesome email from my son this morning!

My son emailed "Mom, I got the pillowcases!  I'll take pictures!"

I am so excited that VFA 34 has the pillowcases.  there were 10 boxes!

34 moms and wives.  I am bummed.  found out much later yesterday, that my son only got 1 more box.  so he now has 3 out of 10.

the box he did get was one of the designated.  Those came by COD and were in the original box, with his name on it.  2 others came by COD, so don't really know what the hold up is.  the rest came by mail.

Anyway, he is taking a page from my book and Heads at Ease motto "all or none".  So when he gets them all, he will hand them out.

I did check with command and the pcs are on the ship, but they have many boxes to get passed out.  So patience, which I don't think I have at the moment.  Well, he did promise photos,  so that will be our compensation I guess.
