The timing of letters and calls is different for every group and can vary by weeks unfortunately. You should receive a brief sort of like a form letter around 2 weeks in. Your first real letter will come 3-4 weeks later. You will likely not see many photos, if any. I encourage you to join or start a bootcamp group once you know his PIR (or graduation) date. Also be sure you get into the boards with newbies as there is tons of information exchanged there. Good luck and stay plugged in here. I have friends that I met here June '09 that will forever be my sisters! (:
I know how you feel. My son has 2 more Wks of bootcamp. I cried for days.
I got a call when he got there. He told me I would get his clothes in bout a week. His packet with graduatlon and address in a week and a call in bout 4 weeks and maybe a call.

My son just arrived in GL yesterday as well. We received our short phone call from him late last night, saying he arrived and was well. He told us we would be receiving his box of personal items in the next week or so with his address and a form letter with additional info. It was like everyone has said, short, sweet and to the point. But it was so good to hear his voice. I too, thought I was prepared, but having him leave and not being able to check in with him at any given time has been very difficult to accept. The mixture of pride and sadness is overwhelming.

I am very new to this site as well, reading a lot, which has been very helpful. Still trying to figure it all out.

Hang in there.

If any of you are on Facebook please add me

Amy - just sent you a friend request - then I can send you a message - I'm an Amy as well, and remember full well what it was like. :)  Sending you hugs!!! And I'll friend you on Facebook if you let me know who to search for.

I'm sorry, I'm not on facebook. sounds like it's something I should do though. Never thought I would be doing this, but felt the need to connect to others who are feeling the same thing. Still trying to figure out how all of this works.

You do not need to join Facebook to connect w others with sons & daughters going through Boot Camp. Start with this.

Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie

This will help you get started. The Guide has links to all the Navy For Moms groups. You could also click GROUPS tab on the above menu bar. On Navy For Moms, you can use a screen name. On Facebook, you need to use your real name. We recommend NOT connecting on FB until you are comfortable with the other person.  Be sure to join the Boot Camp Moms group, watch the videos. When you get the form letter, you'll know when his/her PIR (Pass In Review - ie Boot Camp graduatioin) date is. A PIR group will be formed from within the Boot Camp Moms group. Within your PIR group, you'll meet everyone in the same boat.  I also posted the link to the Survival Guide on your personal page (click MY PAGE on the menu bar).  Good luck.
