Hello Ladies,

My Husband just left on the fourth but I'm already thinking about PIR and planing my trip over there (it keeps me busy). I wanted to see if anybody has every taken the train from New York City to Chicago and what the trip is like? I know it would be 100 times easier to just take a plane but my mother in law can't fly and she really wants to go see her sons graduation. We'll also be travailing with my one year old daughter so I could also use some tips on traveling this far with a one year old.

I was also wondering, after the PIR ceremony would he be allowed to leave the base and spend a night with us or will he still have to stay there?

I'm from Jersey but live in the Poconos and I was looking into taking a train to my husband PIR and I couldn't find any direct lines from pa, nj and ny. I have a one year too you should try a travel agent who and give good information on options.

Amtrack goes from NYC (Penn Station), also from Poughkeepsie, NY and Albany, NY...takes about 17 hours
