If your not use to using public transportation it could be a night mare. I've lived in Lincoln Park (neighborhood just north of Down Town) and i've helped so many lost travelers find the El and get on the right bus it not even funny.
My reason for asking is I am not sure how much time I will have with my son. He leaves for boot on the 6th of April so I would guess he would be done on the 4th of June. Do I get more than just Friday with him or can we hang out more. I wanted to see Chigago and have some fun -- mini vacation for me and may my girlfriend because it is going to cost me 2K just to get there and stay. I have been the mom and dad to my kid for the past 20 years. Chicago has some great night life and stuff and I am an adventurer when I hit a new city.

I went to A school in Glakes, it is easier to day trip to Chicago, the trains run pretty late if you're out for the evening. Or stay the night near the base for PIR, then stay in Chicago for the weekend. PIR is too early in the morning to get there easily from Chicago! (Can't tell you how long the train ride is is these days, been a while).

His rate will determine where he goes to A school, which can have a direct bearing on whether he stays in the area or has to leave right away. Even if he stays in Glakes, he has to report in before he'll have any time off, and he will most likely have to report back each evening. There are exceptions, but I wouldn't count on it!
I guess if all goes well he heads to Texas for A school (master arms) but I have no idea when. I hate moving once I get to a city but I guess I will look for a nice place out there and day trip into the city. Not sure where to go but it should be fun
