Thank you I went to the link but is there a call I can place like a info line?
The ombudsman. You can find her number by googling for the official ship's site.
One option is to e-mail in code. Not real code, but when I was deployed, my mother and I would discuss dates in terms of other events. For example... We are pulling in 14 days after my brother's birthday, etc. That tells you exactly when it is, without telling anyone else. The security concern is the e-mail or phone call being picked up by the wrong people-- not you knowing when the ship is going to do something.

Use a date that you (and reasonably only you) would both know and go from there.

There is also a window in which they can tell you specific details. Usually a week out. The whole Norfolk area knows a week out when a carrier is coming in-- it is a pretty big event around here.

You could also contact the Public Affairs Office- either on base (NOB) or on the ship-- they usually have an e-mail point of contact on the ship's website.

Another avenue is to contact the ship's ombudsman-- that is the person (usually a senior Sailor's wife) who serves as an information conduit between the ship and their loved ones while the ship is away. Her information is also usually on the ship's website.

I hope this is helpful.
