My son is currently at RTC with PIR 6/14/13. He will be going to Pensacola NAS A School afterward for Aircrew Mechanic (AFW I think???). I know there are 3 phases of A School. During Phase 1, will he be allowed to have visitors on base during liberty time?
Also, does he have to complete Aircrew School first before he go through A School?
I'm so confused, thanks for any help.

Since your SR's rating will be Aircrewman Mechanical (AWF), sometime between now and the end of BC join Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola. Someone in one of those groups may be able to answer your questions. There are no groups for just AWF, but you may find others with loved ones with that rating in AIRCREW, Airman Family and Friends, and/or Naval Aviation. The Rating Information Card can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/awf.pdf and additional information at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/aircrew.pdf.
Join the group, PIR 06/14/2013 TG 31- 9 Divisions (221-228 and 931), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. You may also want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups as well as in the PIR group. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.

Pensacola is an open base and you could actually visit without knowing anyone there, the flight museum is there and an old fort. During Phase I the sailors do have liberty, but they also have muster many times a day. Only your sailor will know what he can and cant do. the first phase he is required to be in uniform at all times (the digi's) and his liberty time is limited. If it were me I would wait until he gets to Phase III, and at that point he can wear civilian clothes and have overnite liberty, just easier for you and your sailor.
Actual A school is usually the last class on the list before they complete their training, but C school can be held on base also. Once he gets his first orders he will know when and if he has an c school. C school is more detailed training for his job.
