I am leaving for basic training in less than a week, and I am finding conflicting information on what items to bring.
I know the basics such as SS card, ID, direct deposit slip, address book, and all of those things.
What I am lost about is the underclothes.
I have seen several different lists, and I still need to go shopping.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start with this site. You should bookmark this for future reference. This is where your family will come to get their find the link to print their parking pass for PIR. Click on "Recruits" then click on "What to bring"
Take your birth control and a doctor's note saying it is your prescription if you are on it already. You may bring pads/tampons just in case (the stress of BC will do odd things to your system).
Put the paper with address in it into your wallet in case you aren't allowed to keep the address book. Carry a small black pocket comb, it may go back, but you might want it on the trip.
And yeah, don't bother buying special underthings, or a swim suit. You'll buy it all at the NEX when you get there (using an issued debit card against your first pay). They want everyone wearing the same thing. You may want to travel with a change of clean underwear, even if it goes back.
My husband took:
Address book, His wallet with cash - less than 50, his debit card and ID (and all other forms of ID needed such as ss), and an activated calling card. He had his phone and was able to call up until he got on base. He called from the airport. He wore jeans, a sweatshirt, tennis shoes, and normal underclothes. When I got his box of clothes, "kid in a box", I found his wallet, clothing, phone in one shoe and battery in the other. Don't know if that helps but as far as I know you won't be able to keep much in the way of clothes. They issue all of that to you so you really don't need to purchase anything. He left back in feb. so this is pretty recent.
