info from another Navy mom:

Recruits who have transferred over to Training Support Center Great Lakes are briefed as to having to get a chit which allows them to visit both the Gateway Inn & Suites on the main base and the navy Lodge located in housing. After graduation weekend, the students are not authorized to be at either location.

During graduation weekend, if a Sailor has family staying in the Navy Lodge, they will route a special request chit to the OIC (Officer In Charge) to deviate from the liberty policy.

During graduation weekend, if a Sailor has family staying in the Gateway, they will route a special request chit to the OIC to be able to enter and meet the family at their room.

Again, this only pertains to those recruits who are staying at Great Lakes for A School as this is TSC's policy, not RTC's. RTC may not have a policy regarding whether the recruits are allowed at these two hotels, but TSC does. This may be where the confusion stems from.

He needs to put in for Leave, that is a chit pass.

Chit: Request for special permission; A sailor fills out a chit for such things as requesting leave, getting a tattoo, or moving off base. Sailors with “A” School at the TSC must get a deviation chit in order to visit anyone at the Gateway Inn and Suites or the Navy Lodge while they are students at the TSC except on PIR weekend.

Generally, on PIR weekend, no chit is required, however, when they are briefed on the liberty rules, they will be told if they need a chit and can fill one out on the spot.

A special request chit is a single form used for many, many things.  Requesting special liberty, leave, out of bounds liberty, family as liberty buddies, marriage, no shaving, wearing maternity uniforms, it all begins with the same form.  Unless you know that, it gets confusing.

Personally, I do not recommend Gateway even if you have an ID card yourself (you'll need it or it is a no go).  Not conveniently located, and is used for temp housing for senior enlisted and officers, not a relaxing environment for a brand new sailor.  The Lodge or something off base seems a better choice to me.

Thank you for for info lady's I would be so lost without your help I'm still confused but not as much I think cause it's so close to him leaving I'm racking my brain trying to figure everything thing out before he goes just in case
