For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

What's Next? Please help me understand
My son was recruited to the Nuke program by a recruiter in our town. The recruiter is no longer at the center. I am not up to date on all the Navy lingo and my son has not communicated things to me very well. But, I am desperate in trying to find out what is going on.
He arrived in Charleston, did not pass his tests, missed it by .007 of a percent and now after two weeks is being transferred to a center to wait until he is re-rated?? What does this mean?
He is being told his E3 rate will be reduced to an E1. Can this happen? He has college credits under his belt, he enrolled in College right after high school until he was recruited in this program.Can anyone help me understand the process, PLEASE?

He will meet with a Career Counselor and will be offered a new contract for a different rating that he is eligible for and that is available (it's similar to what happened at MEPS when he chose his NF contract) and then he will head off to a new "A" School.
Yes, he can lose the E-3 if it was tied to the contract for NF (very common) and was not due to having college credits (48 semester hours for E-3) or one of the other things that would result in E-3 (See E-1, E-2, or E-3? How did that happen?.). He can also be demoted to E-1 if there is an administrative reason that your Sailor is not telling you about.
