Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

What should I expect at OCS graduation on March 11th?

       Our son is graduationg from OCS in Newport RI on March 11, 2011.  What should we expect?  Any ideas on a meaningful gift to bring him?  Any info from those who have experienced this AWESOME event themselves would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks

That is hilarious!  Thanks for all of the good ideas. I think I will take 2 cameras!  I appreciate the "chatty Kathy comment especially since I am Italian and we love to talk and my husband is a sweet southern gentleman who could talk about air!!!  I will tell him and we will be on our best behavior!

It is the most AWESOME experience there! Words can't describe the pride we all felt in all of the graduates!  About the DI, our daughter and grandma asked who the guys were in the safari hats?  Our ensign introduced his younger brothers and told his DI that those 2 commented that about his hat.  He stifled a grin and told him to tell them to come say that to his face!:)

Wow we can't wait to see it for ourselves!  How is your son?  Trim and fit I'll bet!!  Did he have to report immediately or was he able to spend some time with you? I think that is one of the hardest things about these last few weeks... that you just have to be patient and wait to hear what is next for them. I need patience and to learn how to wait.. yeah God is not finished with me yet!

Hey NCmom- Yes God is not finished yet!  And yes our son was fit and trim and so proud and distinguished, the clothes he asked me to bring along hung on him:)  Our ensign has 3-4 weeks of class yet, then hopefully will be home for a week to 10 days before off to Japan. He will be deployed for 30 months:(  Depending on what your son is designating as his specialty, I can let you know where most were headed.  For example, surface warfare officers mostly stayed for more classwork.  We got to spend the whole weekend with him and it was heavenly!

Hey Marilyn, Oh that sounds wonderful! Weekend with your son!! But I am surprised that he is off for 30 months! Wow that seems like a lot.  What is his designation?  Our son is an SWO so we are waiting to hear if he will report to the ship or wait for classes to start in May. Hopefully, he will know soon.  I thought they were busy before, but he is so busy now he falls asleep typing notes to us!  As for the time after graduation,  I know he will spend Friday with us. Unfortunately, we had to guess when to return home!  We figured that he will have to report somewhere asap., so we won't have the whole weekend.  I will be thankful for any time we can spend with him.  Each year that passes I think," Could we be any prouder?"  I know now the answer is yes!  I am so happy for you!  Congratulations!! Oh and thanks again for the info on the Graduation box and coin.  I have received the coin and am waiting on the gorgeous box!

He will be on the USSEssex in Sasebo, Japan.  He could have took leave this week as many did before the 3 week class for SWO started, but he chose to save that until after the class and before he ships out.  Yeah 30 months seems a bit long.  What was your son's top 3 choices?  I think ours got his 2nd or 3 rd choice, but he wanted to go overseas:(  We are still on cloud 9 and our hometown newspaper has his picture and news about assignment in it today.  The pride keeps building!

Our son wanted to go to FL or VA.  One gal had her hubby in FL, and one of the guys' Dad had just died so he gave up his 1st choice to them.  So he got his second choice.  It won't be as much of an adventure, but we feel it is where he was meant to go.  Oohh it is in the newspaper!  How awesome for you!  Did you send them the info. about him, or how did they know?  I know you are soo proud.  I never thought my son would be part of the men and women that keep us safe either!

I sent the info with some pictures to the parochial school I teach at to show my colleagues.  Our principal forwarded it to the newspaper with a congratulations from our school as our son is an alumni of the school which goes through the 8th grade. The newspaper put it in immediately.  We did get news last night and again this AM that his assignment is put on hold as they are  not sending anyone to Japan at this time.  He's hoping that gets resolved as he goes through the 3 weeks of classes.  Either FL or VA would be good.  That is AWESOME that someone gave up his choice for a fellow in need!
