Hi I'm wondering my future Sailor is going to an Aschool in another state. I know the usually use O'HARE airport but At what time do they usually put them on a plane to leave for A-school? do they consider the hours of the trip? Or they just get the cheaper ticket for them? Is it true they take all the sailor to the airport at 1am no matter if their plane leaves in the afternoon?
First, read the section on flying, located here: http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/liberty-during-pir-w...
Keep in mind that there are hundreds of new Sailors flying out of multiple airports, on different airlines, to 15+ A school locations. There is no single time they are all put on a plane.
There are two important things you can count on:
1) The Navy is going to do its best to get new Sailors on the earliest flights possible.
2) You won't know the details of your Sailor's travel plans until after PIR.
You have to be flexible.
Our daughter graduated last year and went to Pensacola for A School, she left with everyone else that had a A School somewhere else at 0200 AM.
Only your then Sailor will know his flight details and can tell you following PIR. There are several buses and times for arrival at O'Hare or Midway.
