yea tix are gonna be ugly ... sorry about that ... check on flights to Chicago O'Hare  from Sac. .. check www.bootcamp.navy.mil    click on the families section....  it has lots of information about PIR and suggested hotels and a time schedule for the events of PIR.  This is such an exciting time for our kids...and for us as well...  looks like all the moms are doing a Meet and Greet the nite of PIR.....  can't wait to meet us all when its time for our PIR....

There are 3 airports about the same distance from the base: O'Hare, Midway, and the one in Milwaukee.  Since O'Hare is one of the busiest airports in the world it might be easier and cheaper to fly into one of the others.  Then figure in car rental when you're calculating costs as well.  I'm sure O'Hare car rental options are varied and expensive.  You've got a while to figure that out though.  There will be a lot of info in the Boot Camp Moms group.  They always warn you not to book the trip too far ahead.  PIR dates can change.
HOLY MOLY 7 DAYS TO GO

My son is headed to Sacramento on  Nov. 7th... leaves MEPS on Nov. 8th.   Seems I am crying alot and feeling at a total loss.

Snickerdoodlemom

i KNOW what u mean.. i see the countdown on my phone now says 6 days.. r u on facebook??

we are from Michigan so when my son leaves the house on Tuesday Nov 8th he will then go to Lansing, we will watch him get sworn in on the 9th and then off he goes :(  I am really dreading it - but oh so proud of him.  We are having Thanksgiving dinner this Saturday (as it is his favorite holiday).  I too am at a total loss - he is going to be missed by all of us (even his little brothers) - they are going to be lost without him.  But like I said, we are very proud of him, as everyone is proud of their son or daughters here...we just have to be strong for them.
soooo awesome you are goin to the swear in.. MEPS is 2 hours away for us down here in Kentucky.. and really have no idea what time he would swear in.. Had the sendoff party yesterday..it was awesome..Neighbors, family and tons of friends.. Im already at a loss..but this is awesome. soooo proud he decided to follow in my footsteps (im Navy also) Tomorrow he leaves for the hotel near MEPS.. and Tuesday is swear in and shipping out ..    Hang in there..

this was a very amazing and emotional thing to go to.  he swore in, we got our pics, and then we all waited in the family lounge.  it gave him and his brothers a chance to play cards and just laugh and forget for a minute that he was leaving.  then they called his name to give him the briefing of his travel itinerary.  then they lined us all up as they played "Proud to be an American" over the loud speaker and he walked through as everyone clapped.  (i am crying as i am typing this) cuz it was emotional. proud and sad - i can't wait to talk to him!

oh wow.. i would have cried my eyes out and im crying as i read this... I got "the box" earlier today... cried all over again..opened it hugged his clothes... but OH SOOOOO PROUD... uh oh MORE crying.... wheres the kleenex

i haven't recieved the box...when did your son arrive at Great Lakes?  i am nervous about getting it...I (like you) will probably hug and not let go of his clothes.  ya know as i am crying about all of this - if he knew that i was going to hug his clothes i can just hear him saying "oh my gosh mom dont be ridiculous" - oh well i can if i want - right?

I haven"t received the box yet. But I know I will cry.

Well, my baby girl is off...We brought her to the door of adulthood, and she walked through it this morning as she left for MEPS in New Orleans. She has taken a huge jump into her new life and I could not be anymore proud of her than I am right now! But, I all ready miss her....Good luck to all those that ship off today and tomorrow..
