You are not alone. She said it was pretty much what she expected, half the division was in the know and the othe half clueless, and that she should have practiced her 45 degree corners for bedmaking more. Otherwise, just requested pics of her cat.

Thanks for the reply.  I can't imagine my son actually making a bed!!  I can't wait to see a demonstration of that! My son actually said it was like "Full Metal Jacket".  I didn't know what that was but my husband showed me an excerpt on Youtube.  I hope he doesn't lose his wonderful sense of humor.

I just got my 1st real letter in the mail yesterday.  My son said that it wasn't as hard as he had anticipated.  He said they had gotten their working (blue camo) uniforms and it sounded like they would be getting their dress uniforms this week or next.  He said most of the guys are getting along well together, sharing stories of their lives before bootcamp and stories about their families.  He said one of the guys said they were becoming a family and one of the instructors said they should all start acting that way.  He said they get 3 meals a day and have time to study whenever they aren't in actual training.  He said the girls aren't bonding as easily.  He was surprised at how relaxed it was when they weren't training.  I really liked his letter because it sound upbeat and it takes a lot of worry off me.  I hope that everyone gets such a great response from their recruit.

A real letter today, at least I know she's alive. Missed passing her swim and run the first time through by a minute or two. Everyone says they work with them till they pass. Am trying not to worry about it. one of the guys got caught bringing food upstairs and got in big trouble.ouch! the girls in the div have taps with div 58. I can't imagine the drama that must go on after lights out with that many girls in one spot, Now hoping for a phone call. Guess I'm getting greedy. LOL

I posted on the other site that I got a letter too!  I'm so glad to get some more details from you guys.  My son's letter was quite entertaining!  I was glad to see he hadn't lost his fantastic sense of humor.  The interesting details I got were that he had made some friends and there were some great people there. He said that is snows alot and that everybody was sick. He said he had done well on all the testing including the physical tests which are his specialty.  He said he had slept a total of 20 hours since he had been there.  (That could be part of the sense of humor, not really sure.)  His handwriting was better than I had ever seen it.  I think I am going to send one of the questionaires I saw on one of the group sites to him with a SASE as suggested so he can write all the other people back that have written him too if he wants to.  He wrote my mom and dad too and they were ecstactic to hear from him.  I can't wait to hear more!

Well we got a short call yesterday from my son.  I wasn't at home because I had gone to the doctor with my mother.  My husband talked to him for a couple of minutes.  He said he thought my son was afraid he would get in trouble if he didn't hurry.  I hope he has an opportunity to call again soon.

Our son was saying thoughout the call that he would have to get off soon, so I think they were rushed, but I guess that is the usual.  How did your son sound when he called, my son was a bit quiet and sounded a bit homesick.  Just wondering how the other SRs are doing.

Mine had trouble connecting at first and when she did she said she had 3 minutes. Said she got a 5.0 on their first test, missed perfect inspection by a button, and asked for more mail. Besides being mad at herself for the button thing, she sounded content. The thing that made me the happiest is when she said she was happy with her decision to join. Still have the run to pass, 30 seconds to pick up, but the call made me comfortable enough to request my days off and start making plans. The one thing that did bother me though is she said the division as a whole has not earned any "extras" as of yet.

Are the girls and guys of the division together on earning the extra's?  My son never talks about that.  I did read somewhere that the guys cannot talk to the girls.  Did you ladies see the thing about wearing the same color neckscarves so everyone can find the other parents and families in their division and the kids can find us in the audience?  I think that sounds like a great idea.  My son said he had made lots of friends.  He had new friends from Boston, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, and other parts of Texas.  He has a few new nicknames as well and seems pretty pleased with them.

She said they were an integrated division, so I assume what one does affects everyone else be it female or male. I know the girls from 57 have taps with the girls from 58 though. I hope they will eventually come together .

on another note, I was talking (bragging) about my daughter at work and one of the new employees mentioned her son had just graduated boot a few months ago. What makes it even better is he's in Nuke school in SC where she'll be going afterwards. I might be able to get her a few heads up from somebody already there.
