Hi all, I am not very artsy craftsy, and I was wondering if any of you are making a memory box or scrapbooking project for your SR's momentos. I have a bunch of pictures from Nick's going away party,…Continue

valtameri -  yes it was bad. When they cut the tooth they thought they just damaged her nerve. After the surgeon did surgery he said they actually cut the nerve. She was having so much pain because the nerves were giving her electrical shocks. The meds they gave her was to relax the nerve. It also relaxed all the nerves in her body which made her sleep most of the day. She couldnt walk anywhere or be alone. They had to give her an hour to eat because her mouth on one side  is numb and she cant feel a thing. The stories she tells about her ordeal which began on April 13th are sad and some are funny. She now has screws, a plate, a tube, and bands in her mouth. The surgeon  broke her jaw and cut out the damage nerve and scar tissue. She no longer has electrical shocks but still has some pain. She will never have feeling on that side of her mouth and face. She was given her stripes and they did their best to take care of her in SIQ. She had to have a special diet since she cant chew and needed to always have a couple of recruits with her. She is doing ok at home and is looking forward to going back. This could have been avoided but wasnt so now we just have to move forward. The Navy Chief Medical Liason flew me to Wisconsin for the surgery to be with her. She also made sure my daughter had a voice to keep her best interest in mind.

Hi tks4 - I have seen bits and pieces or your daughter's story, but what happened? Was it a badly messed up extraction? If so, that is just very sad, as that sort of thing doesn't have to happen. They actually decided to wait on my son's teeth and just reevaluate in 6 months - 1 year.

She only has  1 week to finish up. We are not sure why the doctor didnt leave her wisdom tooth alone until after bootcamp. There was so many things that went wrong on their part it is unbelievable. My daughter was asked if she would like to sue. Right now we are just focusing on her healing and not dwelling on her permanent injury. There is a possibility that she will have to take a medical discharge.

tks how much of boot camp does she have left?  Wow she has waited so long for this please keep us posted on how she is doing.  I did not realize she had not finished yet.  If all goes as planned your daughter will be going back at the same time mine is coming home to visit.  I will not believe it until he is at the airport waiting to board the plane home.  I will be praying for both of you....the waiting again must be hard.

My daughter is home to heal from her surgery. She gets to stay until July 29th then back for  a doctors check and to finish bootcamp. It is a sad and happy time but we are getting through it. I have wonder where everyone in this group has gone.
