Just got my letter today and finally can mail letters, does anyone have any idea about 900 my son did not have a MU rate, so not sure why he is in there? also I read that it does not get them anything else a regular DIV would but more work, according to what I read it's not something you should volunteer for so I am worried. Can someone enlighten me?

I have a son that is in a 900 division also PIR 7/18. I read that they pick high test scores and physically ready recruits for SHIP/STAFF.
My son is also Div 936 PIR 7/18, like Shan. He said he was on the Ship Staff and is a "body snatcher". He did not volunteer, but considered it an honor (we'll see). I have also heard that ones with higher ASVAB scores may be picked because the RDC's think they can handle the extra responsibilities. I don't know if the Ship's Staff participate in two other PIR's, like the band, flags, etc. do. The Ship Staff might only participate in their own PIR, I don't know. I've also read that they have extra responsibilities with their "ship", but don't know that for sure either. I guess I'm not much help. He called his past Sunday and talked with his wife, Firefly47. We haven't received any letters yet, but if/when he writes, I hope he goes into detail. I want to know how to find him during his PIR. I'm going to try to watch PIR this Friday and see if I can find out anything else.
I found a site that listed the divisions his number is a "Triple Threat" and I have read the descriptions I still don't know why?? guess I will find out in 8 weeks :) he did score high on the ASVAP but I am confused about the instruments he plays the sax, they don't use sax according to the list
Where did you find the site that lists the division numbers? I haven't seen that yet.

I found it on this site when you go on the boot camp site in the beginning there are links about what a division is it take you to a page that has a link for 800 and 900 divisions and there descriptions the list is there under 900 divisions. If the number is not 800 which is special ops or 900 the division is a regular division, which was what I thought my son was going to be in.
Well ok then
1. I apologize if I am not familiar with all the correct terminology my son just joined.
2. I was only saying MU because on the boot camp site they said he could be put in there even if their rate was not MU (I was just stating what I had read, which was written by people in the Navy)
3. I was confused because he does not have any musical ability for any of the instruments listed under the description of what the Triple Treat division does and had no idea what you would be doing in the division that performs if you don't
Here is a place you look to see what the 900 division is all about http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/900-divisions. It is an honor. My son was in the 925 division. He carried the American Flag during his graduation and the two prior.
Hi Nicksmom!! My son graduated from bootcamp on 5/23 and was in the 928 division. Being in a 900 division is a honor. It means that your son tested high on his ASVAB and other tests, so he does not have to study so much during bootcamp and can have other responsiblities. My son scored high and also played drums in high school so he was on the drumline playing snare. While he was in bootcamp they got to perform at 2 PIR's before their own and he was also picked to go to a very important Military Ball in Chicago, so he was able to meet VIP's and have an amazing meal. You should be so very proud he is in a 900 division. Watch a live feed of a PIR and you will see how much the 900 divisions do and how different their uniform looks from the other divisions. I am excited for your son, I know my son LOVED it!! Hang in there!! HOOYAH!!
