Friday evening at Bellevue Baptist Church, one of our local high schools had their graduation ceremony. After the Valedictorian gave her speech, the Principal wanted to thank all the current and former members of the military that were present. the Principal noted that one guest who is presently serving in the military had a very difficult time in getting to the ceremony and she was very grateful for his presence.
out of the wings stepped the Valedictorian's Marine brother....not a dry eye in the place as the Valedictorian ran into his arms.
MommyHunt a couple of the things that I have done to get fabric is I ran a free ad on a local website and posted that I was part of a group that made pillowcases to send to our military serving overseas and that if anyone had fabric they would like to donate I would gladly pick it up and I had two responses. The first one I left with 5 large garbage bags full of fabric and the other a car load (back seat and trunk) full of fabric and some of it was still on the bolts. Since running the ad for material I have started watching to see if anyone has material for sale and usually when you tell them what you are going to use it for they will they reduce the price or give it to you. One of the other moms went and picked up 8-10 plastic containers full of fabric that someone was willing to donate to us. I still have 5 of them to go through and wash and cut for pillowcases.
Another thing was I set up at the local library Christmas Festival and took boxes of pillowcases and asked people to adopt a pillowcase for $1.00. I had cards where they could write a note and I included them in the pillowcases when I shipped them. This brought in $60. The next week Joann's Fabric had a big sale and between sale prices and a coupon I was able to purchase 27 yards of material with the money.
Since you are a part of Heads at Ease just put it out there that you are willing to sew but on a budget and if anyone has any extra fabric they could send it to you. There are a lot of people that want to help but can't or don't have the time to sew and they will send fabric or sometimes gift cards to Joann's. I know that recently Maryellen had a man donate hundreds of pillowcases that just needed to be decorated in some way and they mailed them out to different people. Also some of the Pepsi Grant money has been used to purchase fabric and Susan(mom of Niko) is the one handling that. Hope this helps.
