Hi all - just got back from Bremerton spending Christmas with my son.  He is so happy to be over his TDA in the galley and back to his regular rate as an ATI.  He is on the Stennis and his orders say he will be there until 2013.  Who know where he will go in he reenlist after that.  Hope everyone had a nice holiday, mine was very special being able to spend it with my Sailor and his new wife.

There is always a 'getting to know you' time aboard the ships when the squadrons arrive aboard...  on the big ships it can be a bit of 'our ship and you are a visitor here' mentality...  smaller ships are a bit easier to break through as everyone wears multiple hats to get all the work done.  Also there is a different work schedule for air squadrons on carriers (seven days a week) and ships company works (six days a week on rotation)...

Wow...  so many here have sailors on Whidbey...  my son has been there for three years...  he just re enlisted and is heading to San Diego soon....  but if your sailor ever wants a place to head let me know!!  They are always welcome here!  We live just outside Seattle.

P-3's are land deployed.... too big for ships.  Air squadrons are based around the country and are pulled together for deployments.  Before the actual deployements there are many many underways (on the ship) and detachments (around the country)...  there are many bases they head to for flying training.  the pilots as well as the crews need to practice working as a team.

Sailor Son headed back tomorrow through ATL...hope he doesn't run into a snafu with all the bad weather.

he still thinks A school will start soon after the stand down is over.

he says (now) his dream job is to go "squadron at a base in Japan and fly out to a carrier as needed"....did i get that right? he has tried to explain some of this Navy stuff to me while he has been here. he said that there's no telling what is next...but he does have a wish to do this.

Thanks everyone for writing, I feel so much better knowing I not alone.

My husband did 6 years when we were first married 25 years ago. P3's are different though and times have changed alot. So it's hard know knowing what to expect and being on the Mom side is so much harder than being on the wife side. I'm sure he will love it.

chris and his gf went to nyc two days before christmas. He was in uniform(at her request) they went to dinner and a was told by the waiter someone was covering their meal. He pointed out the gentleman so chris went to thank him. He said he had a sailor who wouldn't be home for christmas and wanted to treat them. Some people are so nice. how great is that.

My Matt was an ATI until he received his orders to WA which stated now an ATO.  He graduates from C school Feb. 7 so Chris and Matt will probably start about then.  My son is assigned to a squadron with the P3s and he will be deploying when his plane does.  Not all deployments will be out of the US.  Bryters I live in Texas so the weather in WA is a lot different from what Matt is used to.  He said it is beautiful but they do not see much of the sun.  Matt said that it would be in Chris' orders if he is Sea Op Detachment.  Matt's gf is in FRC and she deploys with a carrier.  Susan what is your son assigned to?  I hope that you get a phone call from him today.  Matt has been in WA for 6 months now and we hope to visit him next summer.

How do I know if he has Sea Op? He will be attached to Fleet Readiness Center, No squadron that I can tell of. Thanks Matt's mom. Where are you from? We are from Memphis.

My son is also at Whibey. He is an ATO. He said that your son would deploy only if he was Sea Op Det.
