marine_navy--thank you for the encouragement. i have mulled this over and over since i made my last post...just thinking waaaay toooo much about it and you are so right-accept things as they come. heck he hasn't even started A school yet!!! talked to him last night and he's been fishing and doing lots of cleaning and doesn't seem stressed about anything. PIR was a whirlwind, he was bone-tired so when we see him at Thanksgiving we will have enough time to sit quietly to talk to him.

@Sherrill-thank you for the info on overseas duty and that is wonderful to have both your kids near each other. i had no idea and my brain has sort of locked up on the THREE years....i can't even express what i am feeling. hopefully it will be awhile before this happens and i will adjust to the fact that i will probably not see him for three years....still soooo much for me to learn.........

Hi Andrea, I can't believe how much I have learned today. Not all bad and not all so great as you mentioned the 'hurry up and wait' attitude of the Navy. I guess all the Sailors learn to live with it and hopefully my young man does have the 'patience gene'...hmmm. 3 yrs. in Guam....now this surprises me...i didn't know the Navy would send Sailors to duty stations for that long (unless requested?)!!! and i think it is safe to assume that for every Sailor there is a different experience and/or different timetable...this is frustrating but i am getting used to it already...and i am learning that there's much much more ahead.

Look for Quick Links on the right side of the page and choose Rating/Degree Roadmap and on the next page select AT. The next page you will select AT roadmap. Hope this helps you.

Connie and marine_navy mom Matt was lucky enough to get in on a program that the Navy had for a very short time a year or two that if you were accepted into the program you would go to the college of your choice but the Navy chose what classes you were to take. He attended college for a year then left for BC and since his A school was in FL he finished his last semester of college there. He did not receive his degree until he completed A school because some of what they learned in those classes finished up his degree requirements. I am encouraging him to not wait too long to go for his Bachelors Degree but since he has been in some sort of school for the last 2 1/2 years and not finished yet he doesn't really want to go on right now. His recruiter said that it is easy for them to take courses even if on the ship because they have professors available to them and they can always take classes online. Matt ended up taking 5 of his classes online as well as the others on campus. If you want specific information you may contact his recruiter and see if he can help you with that.
As far as C school goes I would say that no not everyone goes on to C school because some of Matt's classmates didn't.
Training on a specific plane doesn't come until after A school. I think A school covers specific areas (electrical) and then C school gets even further in depth on the training and after C school Matt will have hands on training with his specific plane for several months. They don't get to request what plane just get to list locations on their dream sheet.
Hang in there on the learning believe me I would have NEVER thought I would know some of the things that I know now but I still feel stupid when Matt comes home and he is talking to his uncle who is former Army and they start using all of the acronyms and it reminds me that there is so much more to learn. LOL

thank you all for the help today. i can't tell you how much i appreciate it...and...being so patient with me as i try to "get up to speed" on the Navy. i did see where a navy dad posted some where within this group and on separate discussion all the required courses for ATI. it really was 'greek' to me LOL but maybe some day i will understand at least some of it :)

is everyone sent to C school? after that i suppose any further training is offered at certain bases and you can do that training at your own discretion? just depends on how far one would want to take advantage of the learning opportunities?
