@Matt's Mom--YES i've heard it both ways too!!! a few years back my husband and i used to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to eat and play the "trivia" game. the young people there were so sweet and would often try to 'feed' answers to us on modern stuff we had no clue about. the cute little girls who waitressed there would come over and do the "Cupid Shuffle" around us...in other words these young people actually LIKED us. we'd go home to children who thought we were the biggest goobers that were ever born!!!! thankfully Airman Son is long past thinking his momma and daddy are goobers.

Hi the 3dsmom! Glad you are over here with us.

Yeah Connie I have read where some of our sailors really aren't too happy when mom learns something on here that they didn't even know. LOL And then there are others who say "Ask the other Navy moms and see if they know".

Connie you are right on the I and O. The ATOs go to the planes to work on them and they will repair or replace the part. The ATIs are in a shop and they will repair the parts that couldn't be repaired at the plane. I am sure that it is way more involved than that but that is the basic idea of the difference between the two. I don't remember exactly how long INDOC was but I am thinking a couple of weeks. When we took Matt back to the base I always went inside with him to check back in and then the very last time we were told that I didn't have to be with him to check back in. Oh, well it was just another way to spend a little more time with him while we were waiting to check back in.

@Lea---good to see you here;) Stephen is ATI too...and I am still trying to figure it all out as well. He tried to explain it to me when we saw him at PIR but my brain couldn't take it all in...just too excited and tooooo tired. I think ATI is inside and ATO is outside...these were not the intended definitions but Stephen said I was 'sort of' right LOL i think he was just trying to be nice to his tired ol' momma......

Connie when you go you will have to go in and be with him when he signs out and they will have to see your driver's license.

Mommy and Connie at the end of BC they go over the rates individually with the sailors before they graduate and leave for A school is what my son said happened to him. Their score on the ASVAB test also determines their strengths and weaknesses and that helps when deciding on a rate. Their is a service on the base, I believe it was Sprint and was located at Portside, that they can purchase their internet through. The difference from BC and A school is so different and they are given a lot of freedom but they also watch the sailors so that they can see how they handle down time and getting in trouble is not the way to go. At Pensacola they are not allowed to leave the base unless they have a buddy with them, that can be another sailor or if you go to visit you would be his buddy.
