Yes, you can give them their phone, laptop, tablet at the airport. Makes it nice because there is more contact at that point. And yes, it is unaccompanied but some spouses will move their on their own dime. Unaccompanied means that the navy won't pay to have you move. But before you decide to move right away, he has to phase up (which can take between a few weeks and a month), and he has to get an off base housing chit approved for him to be able to get an apartment. If he gets one of the longer schools it might be worth it. And remember, there is lots of hold time. My daughter got to Pensacola in August and didn't leave until February and she is an ATO which is the shortest of all the schools. Just something to think about. I see that you're in California... so that's a long way to pay to move, but just so you know it can be done after they jump through the right hoops and if you're willing to pay for yourself to move.
The detailer at boot camp will assign the job based on what is needed and what openings there are and I don't believe they have any choice. And yes, flying out on saturday is standard. We went to the airport at about 5am and got to spend about 8 hours with our daughter before her flight actually left. Are you planning on moving to Pensacola to be with him during A school?
Happy Friday Ladies - Have a Wonderful Weekend!
Sherrill - Oops meant to say "Safe Trip" not same trip!
TGIF!!!
Nice to hear from you Sherrill and so glad your Sailor found a house. This is wonderful for them especially since their family is growing! I hope you have Frequent Flyer Miles...you'll be racking them up come April! Have a same trip and enjoy your visit. Yep, my son is on the GW and the ladies in that group are wonderful. He only got off the ship one day in South Korea...had to leave early due to typhoon coming in. Didn't upset this momma him leaving there....too close for comfort for me!
BeachBunny - Isn't it funny how before the military a phone call in the middle of the night was an instant panic but now with kids in the Navy we quickly jump out of bed with excitement that it's our Sailor! Yep we all love 'em no matter what time of day it is!!!!
