Good morning, Everyone! I don't always post, but I always read and there is something new to learn every time! We just dropped our SR off at the airport. He's an ATO and headed for C school in San Diego. We've never been to the west coast, so it will be an adventure!! Wow, we really have to practice our initials, don't we?! I was listening to him and his brother (army reserve) talking and it was like another language! Happy Friday!
Good Evening my beautiful girlies!!
Jill, my son is an ATI also (Cass Tech)...it's a big ol' gray thingy that diagnoses problems. he went to school at Oceana Naval Station at Virginia Beach which was convenient for him since the Bush ports at Norfolk.
We had one sweet Navy wife with us for awhile and her Sailor husband (ATO) was sent to Tinker AFB Oklahoma for C school.
from what i have seen, most ATs go to C school and there are several locations.
and like Joshmom said there are NO ignorant questions!! we didn't know all this stuff either! we picked bits and pieces up and shared it with our friends here.
Jill - my son is ATI. He's in C school for Calibration Tech. It's my understanding that there is only one school for CalTec and it's at Keesler. Even though it's an AFB all branches of the military go there for specific training. Don't ever think you're asking an ignorant question. I've learned alot on N4M's but my little bit of knowledge is just a drop in the bucket! I don't think I'll ever learn all this Navy stuff. I love it when people ask questions - that's how I learn things!
joshmom, is your son ATI or ATO? What kind of school did he have to do at an Air Force base? Is this normal for Sailors to be trained there? I'm new to the AT world, so forgive any ignorant questions :-)
Good Morning Ladies!
Thanks for the info! J says he will not be assigned to a squadron so from your comments and the info I got off the GW group I'm going to guess he'll be living on the ship at least for a little while.....it's the Navy so who knows! He'll just have to wait and see when he gets there. I have to chuckle thinking about him living in such a teeny space. Down at Keesler he shares a big room with one other Sailor and they both have their own walk-in closet....hhhhmmmmm....maybe I should suggest he live in his closet for a while if he wants a taste of ship accommodations!!! hehehe
Connie - thanks for the link to the rackpack. I think he'll really want one of those. Hope Grandmaw enjoys her pedi/mani today!
Chopsmom - I love your way of thinking!!!!!!
Sherrill - I'm jealous you went to the Biltmore. My sister has been there and she too talked about how awesome it was. Glad you're having a good time.
Have a Great Day Everyone!
chopsmom, what a thoughtful and generous idea but there is no random way to do it, that i have ever heard of....every letter and every package must have a specific name and address. i think "back in the day" mail was allowed to go through as "Any Sailor/Soldier". not all ships allow the rack packs...another thing that "depends on the Command".
the people at rack packs are some of the nicest people i have ever dealt with.
my Sailor tells me that when he crawls up into his rack, he pulls his curtain closed and feels cozy....very cozy....hehehehehe
Hmm, so how could I send a rack pack to a random sailor? Wouldn't that be cool? What if a bunch of people did that?
Good Afternoon my sweet girlies!! Grandmaw back upright....perm....check! mani/pedi tomorrow and she insists on driving herself : /
Joshmom, my Sailor is an ATI assigned to the GHW Bush and lives on the Carrier. he tells me that one must be E4 and above or married to live off the boat. i have been told multiple times that it all depends on the Command of the Ship.
living arrangements...oh my goodness i have only seen the pictures but his Aunt and Uncle toured the carrier and from their accounting....reeeeeeally tight!
so far my Sailor has dealt with it far better than i ever imagined. he's always had a lot of space (the whole upstairs area of our home) and he hasn't complained one time about his teeny little space on the ship....uuuhhhh Beware the Sailor that touches his stuff though....hehehehe
have you ever heard of a rackpack? if you find out that he will live on the ship you might want to check out a heavy duty curtain that will give him some privacy. i got my Sailor one of these and he LOVES it!!! according to the website it is allowed on the Washington BUT i would have him double check to make sure!

SHERRILL!! The Biltmore!!! it will knock your socks off!!!!
Good Morning Ladies!
J called last night and asked that one question I thought I'd never hear "Mom will you find something out for me on N4M's?"!!!!!! I nearly fell off my chair! He usually laughs when I talk about this site or says yeah mom I know that. Anyhoo, he's wondering where he'll be living when he gets to Japan - on the base or on the ship (aircraft carrier)? What has been the living arrangements for your Sailors who have been assigned to ships? Sherrill I'm sure you can help me with this since your son was also on the GW. Any info is much appreciated.
Hope everyone has a great day!
