Hi, this is all new to me. My daughter just got to Gulfport for her A school. She was told she is a SeaBee. I have looked all over the internet to find out more info about this, and have a better idea now, but it seems like SeaBees have a really different role in the Navy. Anyone with a Sailor in this role, or in MS for A school, jump on in and help me educate myself on what she can be looking forward to doing. Thanks Much

My daughter is in Gulfport also for her A school, she is a SeeBee too. She builds things, walls for houses and then takes them down. They do book work and hands on work too, she likes it. She is coming home this weekend for 2 weeks. Then she goes back to Gulfport for a month. Then she goes to VA. That is so cool that you have a daughter there too, I hear a lot about sons but not many daughters.. Where are you from? We are from Carbondale, Il
We are from Nevada, outside of Reno. Living in almost zero humidity, the climate has been a change for her. Seems like this end of the navy is mostly guys, so I do really like to see that there are girls there. Im hoping she gets stationed in Port Humme, as that is at least only a state away. She is waiting to start classes, and so far really likes it. She is really excited about learning new things though. Im trying to learn as much as I can, so I can better understand what she is doing and learning. I bet youre excited to have your daughter home for two weeks, mine was saying that most of the girls that are there now, are graduating and going home for a bit. I appreciate your response, it's nice to meet other moms out there in the same 'boat' haha, that Im in.

Yes Kelly is one of those graduating and getting to come home. Her sister is going to pick her up tonight at the airport in St. Louis.                  I hope your daughter still likes it after she has been there for awhile. Kelly said it is very hot there, so that will be a change for your daughter. We actually have it a little cooler now than it has been, high in the 80's instead of 90's. Got to  turn the a/c off for a bit, had it on 24/7 for awhile.

Hope to hear from you again. Have a good day.  Marsha

I just talked to my daughter, (wow isn't it nice to have communication with our kids once they are out of BC) anyway, she said her roomate just left to go home for two weeks, and said her name was Kelly. hmmmmm, coincidence? Ask your daughter is she got a tiny , quiet, blonde new roomate last saturday?hahaha wouldn't that be funny. I told Amanda about this site, and she said "of course you would find that mama" Enjoy your time with your daughter, I cant wait till mine comes home. :)
Oh my gosh!! So your daughter and mine might have been roommates. I will have to ask Kelly if she had a roommate named Amanda. Heather went to get Kelly, they will be home sometime tonight or early in the morning probably. I will be in bed soon.I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow, at least it is not a full day.My son just got home, tomorrow is his birthday, he will be 24. We will all go out in the evening to eat to celebrate. Well, good night          Marsha

The girls got home between 1:30 and 2:00. I got up to see them when they came in and we talked a bit and then we all went to bed. Rick and I had to work today. The girls spent time with friends. Then tonight we went out for Michael's birthday.

I asked Kelly if she had a roommate named Amanda that was quiet and she said yes.!! So isn't that something, must have been your daughter and my daughter in the same room for a week.

  Have a good night. Marsha

Oh my goodness! Whats the chances of that hahahaha. I guess you and I have more in common than we thought. My middle daughter is sitting here saying how funny it is that you and i randomly connected. Small world I guess Well im glad Kelly got home safely, and your family is getting to spend time together. Amanda is waiting for her classes to start, but is very eager to learn the job. You can let me know what Amanda has in store for her. Enjoy your time with your family. Have a great weekend, Cheri

We had a cookout and family over to see Kelly since they hadn't seen her since before she left in Feb., it was a nice time together. She has also been spending time with her friends and some of them came over today too.

That is so cool that my daughter and your's were in the same room for a week. I wonder if they will be together when Kelly goes back for a month before she leaves for VA.

I guess Amanda will learn to build things like walls for buildings and tear them down too and learn from books and take tests like Kelly did. Oh and get up early most days days and do PT on Mon. Wed. and Thurs. mornings.

Have a great night.  Marsha  .

Im so jealous and happy for you lol, I cant wait till Amanda can come home and we can take the horses out for a long ride, and just talk. She said that she thinks Kelly had a different rating from her. She will be learning welding, which is nice, cuz I need the wheel on my horsetrailer fixed hahaha. What a great thing that our girls can be part of what really seems to stereotypical male role. I know Amanda is very happy for the opportunity. She may be small, but she has been throwing 110+pound bales of hay since she was about 12, and helped me break and train several colts, so she has a lot of strength and toughness inside :). Enjoy your time with Kelly,

Have a great night, Cheri

This is all new to me also.  My son just went to A school yest in gulf port ms.  I know that its the construction battalion and my son has told me that they told him he would not be on a ship.  That he would be going overseas and when he does they will fly him over but they told him that in bc so i really dont know how much is going to happen.  He actually told his brother he didnt want to be away from us for 4-5 yrs so i really have mixed feelings.  I am a single mom have been for most of their life.  So the 3 of us have been extremely close which has made this even more difficult. He did tell me there was a hotel on base that we could stay at for $40.00 a nite and he has liberty everyday and whenever he has liberty he can come and see us.  Our bdays are 2 weeks apart and we have always been together so im thinking of going in sept.  There is also a mcd's and subway on base they can go to anytime.  they can have a cell phone in fact i have heard from him evryday hes been there.  Where are you from? We are from seymour IN

I am also a single mom, but I have three daughters. My daughter has been there for a week so far. Its so nice to be able to talk to her everyday, text, and facebook. It was really hard having 8 weeks of nothing but letters and a few phone calls. We are from Nevada, so Im hoping Amanda gets stationed at Port Humne in California. But from what she says, they have several destinations they could be deployed to around the world. As seabees, they are different from other branchs.I have looked at a lot of the naval sites to find out more, but each individual will be different, and it's hard to say at this early part of training, what's in store for them. I know she has a lot more freedom, and is acclimating to the changes from BC. They have PT a lot, classes, and are allowed to go to the NEX and commisary. She just stocked up on groceries, cuz she said the food wasn't as good as BC lol. I don't know about the hotel on base, unfortunately, we are just to far away to make the trip at this point. Seems like the people there are good people, and her group is very welcoming, which is nice as she is the only girl in her class group. What is your son's rating?  Amanda is SW, and her actual classes start in a week. Im glad you posted, I know as moms, this is a huge change for us, and it's nice to know other moms that are going through the same things. Cheri

Cheri:

I remember Kelly saying the other night that Amanda was going to be a steel worker.

When people see the bumper sticker on the back of our car or truck that says Proud Parent of a Sailor they ask about our son and we have to tell them it is our daughter that is in the Navy., they are surprised since they think it is mostly guys. I'm sure Amanda will do fine since she is used to heavy lifting already. My husband could barely lug around Kelly's heavy bags from room to room the other day to clean up a little before people came over. Later he got them back out, I told him he should let Kelly do that.

Kelly is sleeping in while she can. I have to get ready for work.

  Have a good day.

   Marsha
