Hi, this is all new to me. My daughter just got to Gulfport for her A school. She was told she is a SeaBee. I have looked all over the internet to find out more info about this, and have a better idea now, but it seems like SeaBees have a really different role in the Navy. Anyone with a Sailor in this role, or in MS for A school, jump on in and help me educate myself on what she can be looking forward to doing. Thanks Much

My son Alex just left sat for Gulf Port MS.  His PIR was aug 12th.  Im so proud of him.  Razen does your daughter have to go to C school too?  Does she get to come home in between A school and C school?

Do they get to wear civi clothes when they come home?  Im not sure what his rating is.  At this point all I know is he is an E2 sailor.  When do they find out?  Today would have been his first day to go to class or whatever he had to do.

Hi Tina,

I asked about C school, and that is for specialization, so when he goes or if he goes depends on his rating. He should know what that is already, actually they probably told him at MEPS, a long time ago. He may have just seen it a letters, but they have had their job assignment 'rating' since then. E2 is a pay grade, and that is connected with ASVAB scores, and if he's come in with college credits, and probably more that I don't know about.Civilian clothes at A school come with phasing up, and from what Ive been told, they can wear them when they're home. (please if im wrong on any of this someone correct me :) ) Amanda told me that she isn't sure if she will go to C school, so from what I understand they have input. So hopefully this helps, Im learning all of this just like you, as fast as I can. Cheri

Tina:

Yes, Kelly can wear her civi clothes while she is home. My sister-in-law wanted her to put on one of her uniforms on Sun. but she wouldn't do it, said the jacket was hot.Kelly went in as an E-3 since she went to junior college for a little bit before she went in. I think Kelly said there was no B school. I need to ask her about C school. She goes to VA after she goes back to MS for a month. Now she is home and enjoying time with her sister and friends. We all went out for her brother's birthday on Sat. night and that was nice. She got home last Sat. early and can stay for two weeks before she goes back to MS. I will answer whatever questions I can that you might have.   Marsha

Hey marsha. Amanda told me that someone said if you go home in between a school and combat school, you have to pay for your ticket back to ms? Does Kelly have to? Also, did she get to choose where she was stationed next? Amanda wants to be on the west coast as that's closer to home, and she said some people were talking about their formal orders, and that they had been asked if they wanted east or west coast? I really hope so, I would love to have her back on our side of the country!

Cheri:

Yes, Kelly has to pay for her ticket back to MS, she was getting that all taken care of yesterday and asked if someone can get her to St. Louis next Friday, I said we can.  She didn't get to choose where she goes after MS, she text me one day and said looks like I'll be going to VA next. That doesn't mean that Amanda won't get to choose, she might.

  Have a good day.  Marsha

My daughter is also at Gulfport and is a SeaBee, she will leave soon for VA. SeaBees build things, they wear hard hats and build walls for houses. Kelly graduated and came home for 2 weeks and then went back to learn how to shoot. I don't hear from her very much. But she seems to really like what she is doing. Hope this helps you understand it a little better.
