i ladies!  it's been awhile since i've been on, but i have some questions and hope you know the answers.

our sailor recently called.  he graduates on oct. 17 from A school.  because he was not top of class, he didn't get his favorite picks of places to go next.  told us originally he would be stationed back in great lakes.

but when he called, he now says he is going for field training to either NC or SC. which base will that be?  (medical field training)  we assume this means that he will be attached to a marine unit?  how long will that last, and then will he be going to great lakes for real?

i REALIZE these questions are pretty specific to him, but just wondering if anyone can HELP THE POOR PARENTS!!!!????

thanks, guys

Hi

My daughter is in A school I don't understand what it really is and why it's on Army base, but with that said I hope she is making progress after the long stay in boot camp in the Great Lakes due to a medical issues that could be treated.  I miss her alot and can't wait to see her. Did not get to see her when she gradurated from BC she went right to A school

My son like the running and the PT, he even said he didn't mind the IT, just he circumstances that led to it. My son has always been one for schedules, so I guess it's no surprise that he liked the structure. I do know that he does not miss al the yelling!

My grandson actually liked Boot Camp.  He loved the marching. It was the best thing that every happened to him because he desperately need some structure and it comes a lot easier from someone other than parents and grandparents.  He is about to finish A-school as a GM

When I talked to him yesterday, they still weren't sure when classes would start. SInce they've combined with the other branches, I believe they have to wait for all to be present, which makes sense. He said they fill the days with busy work for them, but that's "getting old". He actually said, and I couldn't believe I heard it, that he misses the structured days of boot camp! WOW!

I am considering a long weekend trip in October to see him, they should have weekend liberty by then.

@Rebecca,  my son waited one week before classes began for him. But know that its different for everyone, thinking that classes should begin soon for him.

I am with you - love that I can talk to my son more than in boot camp- it is a whole lot easier on all of us.

Anyone have any idea how long after PIR on 9/23 that an STS will have before he leaves on his plane to Groton, CT?
Comment by Rebecca on September 19, 2011 at 12:44pm

@angelmommy91-how long was your son there before they actually started classes? My son has been there since 9/10 and so far its just a lot of busy work. At first I think he was glad for the short break, but now he's ready for some structure again.

I will say, though, that I do appreciate the fact that I can talk to him everyday, even if it's just for a few minutes. I did not like going eight weeks with only 3 calls-one so brief you could hardly count it.
