We were told that when a recruit has A-school he has to go immediately from graduation ceremonies and register for A-school and it may take up to 5 hrs before he have any liberty.

Does anyone know anything about this.  I see that they might be able to get the entire weekend off.  We are flying from Texas so that would be great.  I guess you dont know any of this until the day of graduation or do you?

Also, how long is it from the time they get their caps until…

Saw the "exchange" on Norfolk group.  I'm so sorry about all of that.  I know we have to be careful, but there were some remarks that were pretty strong.  Anyway, I do hope that you stay on this N4Moms because it will be very helpful.  Maybe you will find the ship site a bit more friendly?  There are some wonderful ladies on this site. I would hate for you to miss out on sharing with them.  I know there were many on the Norfolk group page who wanted you to stay on!

Great, thank you very much! :)  I'm glad it didn't take you as long as the google map tells me! :)  Did you stay somewhere half way there?

hi, we are driving up there also!  We have a 20 hr. drive map quest says, we will be making pit stops pretty often.....we will be staying over half the way at my sister's. We will have to make it a two day drive there and back, it's just too far for one day but we will still come out lots cheaper than flying 4 people and renting a car up there.  We found beautiful accommodations @ Springhill Suites by Marriott in Waukegan, IL.  just minutes from The Great Lakes Navy Base. You can call Marriott's toll free number for reservations.  They are charging $89 per night for their suites for Navy Grads's parents. They have 2 queen beds and a sleeper sofa that would sleep two.  The corner sofa looks like could sleep another person. All rooms have Micro/fridge, etc. They have a Wal-mart across the street, so we could get some microwave food and eat in if we need to.  They also offer free breakfast bar with something "hot" each morning.  We found a Cracker Barrel 4 or 5miles from this hotel, it's in Gurnee, that would be a good food value without spending a lot of cash!  Hope you guys make it there ok.  Hope this encourages you!   We are so excited about going to see our son!  Can't hardly wait!
