Did anyone get a phone call today?  I’ve waited to put up the Christmas tree until today thinking a call would come... my son left 3 weeks ago tomorrow.  My two younger sons were thinking I’d cancelled Christmas :(.  I did put up the tree today but it was brutal.  The weather is really awful there- so I’m hoping this is the reason for no phone calls.  I’m grateful for the uplifting posts- but my patience is wearing thin!  Praying for the phone to ring... and soon!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to help those of you who are struggling so much with not hearing from your children.  Remeber, this isn't just about your child being in the Navy, it's part of letting go and letting them grow up.  You are probably struggling with the mom feelings way more than they are struggling with the separation.   Realize that it is normal for all parents to go through this, but it's harder when you get cut off completely for a while.  We are all redefining our "mom" roles differently, after all, when your child is done with this, you won't get to be the same mom you were to them before.  It's hard.  Cut yourselves some slack, have a good cry, but be strong so you can help them get through it.  And this great group of parents out here are there to hold you up while you wait.  Take a deep breath and realize what a great job you've done making a child that is so strong, brave, and courageous that they wanted to do something so difficult and honorable with their lives!

JessicaB - I'm in 100% agreement with you...Let's not make this any harder on our kids, husbands, boyfriends, grandkids, etc, than we have to.
