She will be going to Pensacola. Looking forward to visiting her down there. I hear there are some pretty spots down there. She goes to C school after A school, but I think that is in Pensacola as well. After that she is hoping for something out of the country, but we will see

She's only been in Japan since November, and is stationed on the USS Ashland.  Sasebo is her home base. She'll be there for quite some time, as it's her first duty station. She was very nervous about being so far away at first, but quickly came to love it.  Where will your daughter be going to A School?

You are right. I think once BC is over, I will feel much better. Where is your daughter off to after Japan? That would be amazing to be stationed there!

Hi Tuttismimi.  The time really does go by quick when they are getting ready to leave. I won't lie, I think by far the hardest part was while they were at BC, and having very little contact, knowing they're being challenged both mentally and physically.  It does get easier, then the countdown to PIR, then seeing your new sailor, it still makes me choke up thinking about it.  I'm very blessed right now, my daughter is in Sasebo, Japan, and we are able to talk and text.  Unfortunately, that will be over soon. I would have been a wreck had it not been for the support on this site.  You find a strength and patience that you didn't know you had once you've been through the BC experience, and will come out a strong Navy mom on the other side!

I love the idea of the Dr Seuss book! Just read over the words. So appropriate. I am going to do that as we'll if you don't mind... My daughter leaves on March 3rd for BC. It seems to be coming so quickly. Sometimes it seems a bit hard to breath when I think about it! It's got to get easier once they have been in for awhile, right??

Hi Leach73.  One thing we did that my daughter really liked at her party was a journal.  I had a hard time finding one, so I got a Dr. Seuss "Oh The Places You'll Go!" journal, which kind of fit the theme. I had everyone write something in it at the party, and gave it to her to read on the trip to Chicago.  She wrote back during the flight there, and mailed it back with her cell phone, in "The Box" with a message back to us.  She now has it with her in Japan, and says she writes in it often.  Blessings to you and your daughter, and welcome to the Navy family!

Hello to all the Navy Moms

I don't come on the site as often as I'd like to but when I do, I'm glad to see new things that help me learn more about the military life and what to expect.

My daugther leaves for BC on Feb. 19th. We are from the Chicago area so thankfully she doesn't have to take a flight or bus in from another state.

That date is coming up soon and with just a few weekends to go, I'd like to plan a little going away party for close family.

Any ideas? suggestions? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hello to all!

My daughter will be leaving for BC on Feb. 19. She is going in with the interest of being a Hospital Corpsman. She did one year of college in a Surg. Tech. program and then took a biomed class at a community college. Her dream and vision is to be in the medical field and serve our great nation. I am so proud of her. Any other moms out there with sons/daughters in the interest of Hospital Corpsman or have been thru the experience?
