Hi all, I'm new to this Navy Mom thing. My daughter, my only child, is leaving for boot camp July 1, 2014. Christmas and the holidays have made me an emotional wreck realizing that it will probably be her last time to celebrate holidays with the family for a long time. Has anybody else fallen apart before their child actually leaves? Don't know if I will be able to be strong for her.
Welcome Leach73. Congratulations on this new journey for you and your daughter! Here is the link to the abbreviations and terminology: http://navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/page/what-does-mean-a-gui... When you are on the "boot camp for moms (and loved ones) page, which I think is the main page, scoot over just to the right under "Pages." You will find tons on useful information! Soon this site will be like your right arm! We are all here to support each other, give hugs when needed, and lots of encouragement. It's going to be tough when she is first gone, but then the letters, and the phone calls come, and before you know it, graduation day!!! Welcome to the family!
Hi Leach73 and welcome. To the right of your screen you should be able to type in the acronym you are looking to define and it will give you the answer. My daughter's (my one and only) PIR was 11/1 and she is now in Pensacola. I dont' think the emotional roller coaster will ever stop but it does get better when you hear their voice. Our first call I cried the entire time. Good luck to you. Jody
Hello. I'm new to the group. My daughter is leaving to Bootcamp in February. She is my eldest and only daughter. She is looking forward to it all albeit a little nervous and excited. I am on an emotional roller coaster! I want to make the most out of these next couple of months before she leaves. I come to this website for answers to questions and to inform myself. It is nice to see that there are lots of Navy moms out there and now I will be one too!
Is there a reference that I can use or go to to find out what all of these acronyms mean and learn some of the Navy lingo. I'm overwhelmed.
thanks!
Good Morning everyone!
My SR is Ship09 Div 075. PIR 31Jan14. Can't wait to mark off another Friday this week. Seems like she has been gone forever and it has only been 13 days.
Hi! My daughter left for RTC on 12/9. Miss her terribly! The bright side is one week done! Check!!!!
Yes the Navy is great about letting them call home. I was quite surprised about the amount of calls she was able to make. I looked forward to the letters and the phone calls. I learned quickly that letter day here was on Thursday. Its funny how things you take for granted, become the things you look forward to, the things that keep you going. What is your daughter specializing in? My daughter is going to school for MMFA. She is on hold for now, said it might be January before she can start school.
MachelIMMmom, I am doing very well. My husband on the other hand a little harder. His baby girl you know. But we are doing well. I heard from her yesterday so I was so excited and shocked. When my boy was in the Army we had absolutely no contact except through mail. So happy Navy does things differently.
Proud mom of SR with PIR 1/31/14 SH 11 DIV 77
