I have also found N4M to be extremely helpful and very supportive. I feel as though I have an extended family, experiencing the same things that I am. This has been great  and I thank you all for your support. My daughter's PIR is also 11/1/13. I have cleaned her room just a bit and changed her bed because I can't wait until she comes home for christmas this year and I'm very thankful for that.

My daughter is in BC, her PIR is 11/1/13. I have found N4M to be very helpful to me. Not only the information for PIR weekend but reading the words of support. My daughters box is still sitting on the dining room table, I haven't moved it to her room yet. Actually her room is just as it was when she left for BC 9/3. I keep telling myself that I am going to clean it and pick up her clothes that she left laying on the floor, but I just haven't done it yet.

My daughter has been in for a year this week. We all are so proud of her. She's in Italy now, and has been since February. Loving it for the most part as well. I too go in her room and look around. Her Pink leather bed with her leopard print everything is still there, and the Hello Kitty blank at the end of her bed. But I'm using her closet more and more for my nice things. It does get easier, but it will get easier. I've lived my life with something I heard as a child "The Only Thing In Life That Stays The Same Is Change". So I say that to myself and its true. Not easy all time especially when our children are concernd no matter the age.
For you new Mom hang in there, the ones of us that have been at it longer are here.

Unless they are "Grad-n-Go" they will have free time to spend with you after PIR. When the ceronmy ends liberty is called and and it is a mad house with everyone rushing to hug thier sailor. Then you can take them off base for lunch. There are many restaraunts in the suburbs near the base so you don't have to go into the city. They have to be back to base at a certain time to check-in. Be sure and get them back on time, And no drinking they get in trouble for that.

My daughter graduated last year luckily she did on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving because we got the extra time with her because she was sent to MA A school in SA Texas Thanksgiving night. She was able to come home in February before she went to Italy for next 3 years so we've been told. At times it's hard for me with her my first born being so far away. But she sends me pic of her all over Italy it makes her Father and I extremely proud. She will see things I may never get to see with my own two eyes.... Well, for now. She's young and seeing the world. She is doing what makes her happy, and making memories for the rest of her life. Isn't that being young is for?

Jody-it depends where there will be for school-some leave the next morning. Mine stayed at Great Lakes so right after PIR we had an hour or so, then she moved to a different area and we picked her up there. We had that evening, and most of the next 2 days her with-she had to be back on base for each night. We took her shopping and out to eat--it was cold and rainy so we did not go into city but really she just wanted to hang, take long hot showers and get in touch with her friends.

Thats great advise, thank you! When do you find out if you have enough time for dinner after graduation and are you allowed to leave the base?

Hang in there Tiffany's mom-keep in mind that she is only in Chicago LOL. That is what I always ran through when mine was in BC. Now she is in Japan :(, but she is happy (for the most part) and doing well. Keep that no news is good news in your mind and look forward to those letters.

It is hard to adjust at first, but then you get used to it. I still miss her alot.

Boot Camp can be fun, writing letters the old fashioned way instead of email. Stalking the mailman lol
