Welcome Lisa! My daughter is going to GL in 11 days.....enjoy your time with your daughter! :) Do you know what her rate is for school after BC?

Welcome, ladies! Congrats to your daughters for taking on this great adventure. My sailor has been in almost a year. I can't believe how fast the time has passed. She has lived in 4 states this past year. What a trip!! You will find bootcamp one of the hardest times. Not being able to talk to her was difficult. I made friends on here that were part of our PIR and we would compare notes daily. It helped to keep the sanity. Search out your PIR group on here.

Remember to write daily, even if it's only a card. I would send pictures from my grandson (her nephew) anything to help make our separation easier. She once told me she was feeling a little down and she wanted mail. She didn't get for a couple of days. I was busy and I assumed others were writing. Boy, was I wrong. I felt horrible. Keep your letter cheery and full of positive thoughts. Somedays are very hard for them so what we say can make a difference. Proud of all these sailors!!

My daughter is in boot camp now PIR 3/15/13 ( I think, I haven't rec'd the letter yet.) She will be a(n) FA/GSE. " A"  school in GL.  I got the "I'm Here" call but nothing else yet.  She was the baby so now it's an empty nest for us.  She sounded nervous and rushed but she's a tough one (with 2 older brothers), I'm sure she'll do well.  soveryproudmom, we went to Monterey year before last it was seal birthing season, that was so awesome to witness!  We loved it there!

My daughter is scheduled to go into boot camp on February 26, 2013. Following boot camp, she is scheduled to go to Monterrey, CA for at least one year.  Looking forward to getting to know other Moms that have daughters in the Navy!

My daughter is also leaving for boot camp on February 6th and will be going to Fla for Aviation machinist !

Thanks, Pat(MP). These kind of discussions just aren't the normal. Hard enough to discuss it with your spouse but your children?? Anyway, I'm sure they will be very helpful.

Thanks blm. Spoke to my daughter and she gave us a clearer view on what she would like for us to do. Such an important matter. Was just kind of thrown off guard but it all makes sense. Certainly never want to think of the "What if's?"

About a year before she even talked abput navy we had our wills redone and lawyer siggested now that both our kids were over 18 we should have power of attorney set up for each other to be prepared for any type of emergency. It seemed uncomfortanle at first, but then it made sense..just in case. To take care of medical or financial issues for us or them. At least until they have spouses.

My daughter is getting ready for some time at sea. She called and spoke to her dad about some paperwork regarding "next of kin". Wow. Sure wasn't ready for that talk. Hope to hear from her today and get a better idea of this. Don't every remember my husband having these kinds of questions on paperwork when he was in. Yikes!!
