DC,
I didn't know your granddaughter was heading to Whidby. How long will she be there? My Catherine has been at Kitsap in Silverdale just over a year now. She loves it up there - there is so much to go and see. I hope V loves it up there as well. I had a great visit in Nov even with it being during their rainy season. I'd like to go back again in the summer.

My granddaughter just arrived at Whidby Island, WA for C school. She had put Norfolk on her dream list and one of her classmates put Whidby on his. They each were sent in opposite directions. Although she is across country, I think she will like the assignment.

Hi mom's,it's been some time since I've been here. I see everyone is doing great. There is a chance my daughter is Ca. bound.

Congrats CSMom, I hope your daughter will like Everett, Washington. When my Dad was in the Army we lived in Fort Lewis, Washington. I went to kindergarten there! That is the first place I have in my memory. ~ Vicky

My SIL has a gaggle of flag poles. My brother was a Navy pilot, their son is a Marine aviation mechanic, their other son is married to a Japanese young lady and their daughter is married to an Italian. So at a family gathering, she flies the American, Navy, Marine, Japanese and Italian flags. Makes for a colorful array over her front door. They have a two-story entry so it looks rather nice.

CSMom, I love your tree, with the ornaments and sailor. What a great memory that will be for you all. As I told you before, I admire your daughter going into the culinary area. That is an important, thankless job.

NavyMom, we received a Marine Corps flag and a Navy flag this year for Christmas. My husband thought it was over the top, but I really like it. I'm going to get me some flag poles to put on the porch and when either our Marine or Sailor are in residence, I'm going to fly them. It would be more fun if we lived where others could see them flying! Maybe I'll put them out on the gate post. Now DH would tell me I've lost my mind. What was funny was that when I told our older son (the Marine's dad) he wanted to know where the Air Force flag was. Both of our sons were in the Air Force, one in air guard and the other in both air guard and regular Air Force.

We got a navy ornament this year as well. It was wooden. Katie also thought it was a little silly, but enjoyed playing, Navy Monopoly at Christmas.

I got a 18x24" card for the door with the Navy seal, the Essex seal and DC symbol on it, but she thought it was a little 'over the top' when she came home with her sister to see the 3x6' sign that said 'We're proud of our sailor' from buildasign.com............Oh well.

Evelyn - Great pictures! Congratulations to your daughter. So glad you were able to spend Christmas together, even if it wasn't the actual day.
