Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I looked at a lot of the you tubes when my daughter went in, and talked to a lot of parents of their experiences. one thing I learned is SHORT letters from home that focus on the pride you have in your sailor to take on this honorable calling are good! Gum is NOT! ;-)

Comment by MachelMMmom on June 25, 2014 at 9:00pm: Hello and welcome Arizonasky42. My daughter graduated from BC on 11/1/13. Like Navybratsmom said, look up Greatlakes Navy bootcamp on you tube. You can get an idea of what they are going through, I found it very helpful. I also never left my home on the weekend, waiting for a call. I was an emotion a wreck. Now she is stationed in California and currently on a ship. She absolutely loves it, and is happier now than I've ever seen her. This site will be your best friend. I don't think I could have made it without the support if the moms in here. I an still very close to several of the moms I met during her PIR. I will be keeping you and your daughter in prayer along with all the others. Many blessings

Dropping her off that day in April was one of the hardest things I have ever done. She had never been away from home or flew on a plane, etc....Once your daughter gets there they will allow her a scripted call letting you know she is ok. Then about 7 days later you will get "the box". It has almost everything she left with. (thats pretty hard) followed by a scripted letter that gives you information on her PIR date. We watched a lot of YouTube videos. Seach GL Navy boot camp. We received an actual phone call about 2 weeks in for about 15 minutes. It depends on how her division does. This is a great website to get info. Hang in there. Feel free to private message me. I will be happy to answer any of your questions since we just went through this emotional roller-coaster.

Comment by Arizonasky42 on June 25, 2014 at 5:55pm: My daughter left last night for BC. It was a long emotional drive home, not only for me but for my other girls as well. I don't know how all this navy stuff works as I am new to all of this. My daughter didn't explain to me what she was doing, just that she had signed up and was going into the navy. Her father and I are divorced and she lived with her dad and his extended family. So many decisions about her future where made without any input from me.

So I guess I am going back to school so to speak, to learn everything I can about the navy and everything that it includes. Don't get me wrong I am very proud of my daughter and her decision to join the Navy. I'm just clueless at this point about everything.

Comment by Michiganbelle on June 21, 2014 at 10:03am: It is so wonderful to see so many young women joining the ranks of the Navy! We certainly can be a very proud lot of Moms! Missing the young women from our lives is hard, but I know for me, hearing the happiness in her voice when I get the rare, too fleeting, phone call from her puts a smile on my face! I am excited about the prospect of being able to spend some time with her when she takes a much deserved leave after she gets back from deployment. I can't wait to hear about the "bests and the worsts" about her first year in service and her first deployment, but most of all, I look forward to collecting and giving out some hugs to sustain me for the next deployment. Now I know how my own mother felt when my sister joined the Navy and stayed in for 20 years! PROUD!
