Hi Christina, I'm Vicky. My daughter is in GL for A school. I went there last year for her PIR. I used the AAA travel agent to book my flight and hotel. But I had picked a hotel from the advice of another Mom on this site. I stayed at the Sleep Inn in Lake Bluff. It is very close to the Base. You can sign up for the shuttle bus when you check in Thursday night. The bus takes you to the Base Friday morning, much faster to get in then driving. It is only $3 per person.
Hi Vicky, thank you for answering me. and i wanted to ask you what airport did you land at? and how did you arrive at the hotel? any more information i would appreciate
Hello Christina:
My son graduated 4-2-2010......oh first of all you will be in for a treat.......
I flew South West from Sacramento Ca, dont think they were the most economical and they only flew to Midway Airport it is an hour and half away to the hotels in Great Lakes that was with no traffic. I was told you could take the train, from the airport but that was a little to much adventure for me my flight left at 6:00 am with 1 stop arriving in Chicago at 2:30pm long day so I was not about to get the wrong train....I also heard Taxi was extremely expensive. I say fly into O'HARE only HALF HOUR AWAY from Great Lakes.
Also if you get to visit with your sailor not a Grad N Go I recommend renting a car. If you rent a car and you are not familiar with Chicago I Highly advise you to get a car with GPS it made getting around town so much more easier and quicker no stress..... not that their would be any driving in Chicago - LOL
As for Hotels, lots of hotels to choose from - MOTEL 6 - QUALITY INN - RAMADA INN - SLEEP INN - I think they were pretty inexpensive...Dont think that just because you stay at one Hotel that you can not go to another for Meet and Greet you are welcome and more than one Hotel has Meet and Greet.

I would say book soon so that you dont have to worry for last minute things....Book all flights by your self or with a Travel Agency and check with the Hotel and airline if you should have to change what their policy is before booking. I am sure you will not have to change and PIR will be June 4.

God Bless your and yours.

Angela
My daughter graduated in May 2010.... I booked my reservations thru AAA, but I flew out on Frontier to Milwakee it is cheaper and then stayed in Wakaukegan a Ramada and then across the street to Motel 6 which was nice too. Make sure you have change for the tolls.
