Yes, I did. Thank you. Apparently the Navy is consolidating a lot of rates in an effort to streamline personnel. I was told that the EN and the MM rates are being merged into 1 rating (MM). The job duties are practically the same, the only real difference is EN works on surface ships and MM works in subs. The MM rating will still have the AUX and WEP designations. And that he will stay in Great Lakes for the 8-9 week school... which is way better than the 12 weeks I was expecting!! Funny that when he called tonight, I had to tell him what is going on with his rate!! Gotta love the Navy!!

timmyswfie did you get an answer about the EN rate?
Comment by timmyswife (09/248) on August 8, 2011 at 11:25pm
Yeah. I posted it there too. More often than not, I get quicker answers from all the moms and wives on here (LOL) so I thought I would post it both places. Thanks though!

Hi timmnyswife. Do you have facebook? There is a page called Training Support Center (TSC). You can pose this question to them and they can give you the best answer. Good Luck to you.

My husband just graduated bootcamp on Friday, Aug 5th. His original contract was for EN. We thought he would be at GL for A-school for 12 weeks. He checked into A-school Friday afternoon, and he was told EN was no longer a valid rate and he had been transferred to a MM-AUX rating. Everything I have read says that this is a rate that you have to qualify/volunteer for and that the A-School is located in Groton, CT??? Can anyone verify this information?? Can you tell me the difference between the two ratings?? I am assuming that he will stay in GL, but do you know for how long??? He is having troubles getting answers since he is still in his processing days of A-school. Any help for this crazy, confused navy wife would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Ruth--from what my son told me at his, it's just a hand shake and a pinning. He said not a big deal, no parents or anything just other shipmates. But maybe your son's will be different. I'm sure he can tell you when the time gets closer.

My son is an EN and is doing the BECC now at Great Lakes.  Any other moms out there with sons currently doing the same?  His PIR was 6/10/2011.  Trying to get any news out of him...but he's not being very talkative...and to his credit, he may not know much yet.  Would love to compare notes on our kids :)
