Hi Phoenixmom! My daughter just graduated A school as an EM in September. The length of time to get thru classes will vary for each sailor. There is often a hold time between courses while waiting for the next course to start. Also, if they are struggling, the class may take longer. My daughter took a little over 4 months to get through.

Good Morning Ladies, My son is going for a EM he is attending school in Great Lakes and he Loves it. They have a little more flexibility in A school and you can communicate more with them. They go thru Phases, Phase one when leaving base they need to go with 2 other Sailors, Phase 2 they can begin to wear civilian clothes so you are able to ship him some from home and they need only one other Sailor to go on Liberty with. For EM's they have Technical schooling first once that is done they go into ATT they must pass both of these in order to get into A school so their grades determine if they can begin A school for this rate. So A school doesn't begin just yet. but it is a course of 6 months for all. According to my son right now they are in need of EM"S they have a shortage and are in need of them. if there is anything that I can help with any question please feel free to ask and I will do my best to direct you. Have a Great Day!

Hey everybody! My fiancé is about to graduate bc. She sent me a letter concerned that she would spend most of her time on a ship away from home, more than most. She is an MR. anybody out there have an MR or insight into life as an engineer? She was kind of bummed.
