Nancy69, He started A school only a few days after PIR on May 27th and from what he has shared with me he has mock 6 & 7 to complete then his 12 days of specialized training for EN and then as far as he knows now he will be done. He said he is going to start checking for orders soon. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait....

My son is just starting EN C school at Great lakes. He had about 12 weeks of A school ...the majority of which was basic Engineering core or BECC, then 12 days of STRAND ( more hands on).His official C school for the Colt-Pielstick engine starts August 9th and his scheduled graduation is September 13th. He received his orders right at the end of A school and is headed to Sasebo, Japan on the USS Harpers Ferry. All I know is that he has to submit his leave chit tomorrow and his chief told him he should get 30 days leave because it is overseas duty before he goes. He hasn't had any leave at all yet as he left right after the holidays for boot camp. I do know that all of his friends that went at the same time have gotten 2 weeks to come home (so far). Although that doesn't always happen...
Jakesmom, when did he start A school?

Hello ladies, just talked to my son last night and he thinks he could be finished with a-school in GLas an EN as soon as a month from now. Is this realistic? I see so many have to wait for their duty station. We were thinking he would be in GL longer....

Charles' Mom:
My son didn't get to come home after A school, he had orders for Norfolk. He did get two weeks of leave at Christmas when his A school closed, he was in school from the 2nd week of December to end of March less the one week hold. He didn't get to attend a C school. I best guess is approximately 13 or 14 weeks of A school. I hope this info helps.

Hi Gen - Thank you for the insight. How long was your son's A school? did he have a chance to come home on leave afterwards, or did he get orders right away? What about C school?.......Please - if there is anybody else who can connect on the info request, I would be very greatful. Knowing specifics would really help me since I am planning a trip to germany to see my parents which is very imparetive and time sensitive....thank you all......

Hi Charles' Mom
My son is a GSM, he finished A school in late March of this year. He was on a medical hold for only 1 week because he twisted his ankle jumping off his bunk. He didn't experience any class time holds. He did have about 2 - 3 weeks of hold time after he finished, while he was waiting for his hard copy orders for his duty station. Boy, and I thought I was the only Mom with a son who doesn't like to give up the information!! After reading some the G/L A school Moms comments, some ratings have a lot of holds, my guy was lucky, really lucky, I guess.

good evening everyone....I am new to this site. I am Charles' mom, and thought, I would join the Engineer group, since my son's rating is GSM. He graduated from BC on June 11th, and is currently in A school at Great Lakes. He started school on June 14th, and should finish 'common core' on August 27th. Is there anything that anybody can tell me about school, possible holdovers, C school, and so on?.....I am not getting too much information from my son. Any insights, tips, ec would be helpful.......thank you all............
