when my son was in A school the phases started as soon as he got there. As long as they don't screw up, excessive drinking etc. and get put back a phase or two it seems to go fairly fast. after he was done with school and went to his base he said he still had many qualifications to work on. he had to work under someone that would show him what to do and check his work. not sure if that is part of what your talking about or not. he always said it was qualifications. he did just do c school in june, that was another 3 weeks or so.

Ok, my husband in just now in Pensacola for A school. he got there yesterday and his orders say his class starts on September 6th. The school only lasts for 15 days. I have done my research for his rate and he is supposed to have core for 30 days then specialized for 15. This seems backwards so far. Anyone know about this? Also, when do the phases start (giving them more liberty)? I want to go visit and I wasnt sure if the phases start when he officially starts school or as soon as he gets there. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Thank you all very much, he will be happy to know that the wait isn't long.  I know he will appreciate all of this information!

It might be aviation warfare apprentice training. My son said this is a general aviation class which is required of everyone going into an aviation field. Also, by studying the questions at the end of each chapter, it's really easy.

Thank you, I will take a look at that group.  It will be so nice to communicate with him more often.  His division got calls today but we didn't, maybe he was standing watch.

My son did A school 2 years ago so I may not remember everything. Like I don't remember what AWAT means. You might check the Pensacola A school group. My sailor  was in P'cola about 5 weeks before he started class. I don't know if there is a wait now.  I think school was about 4 weeks, mostly book learning at the beginning and hands on learning at the end. Yes you can have personal items at  A school.  It sure makes communication a lot easier.

My son has asked me to find out some information about A school.  He wants to know how long it lasts, what type of classes they will take, and if they are allowed personal items (laptop, cell phone, ipod)?  He mentioned doing AWAT to class up - not quite sure what this meas.  If anyone can answer any of these questions I would really appreciate it.  Thanks.

Hi Patty,

I am sure I will have a lot of questions for you "veterans" once our son has started A school and after he has been assigned.  He is at the half way mark in Boot Camp.

If he does end up going there its a good thing my son likes ketchup.
