Advice for new spouses

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

We use Navy Fed.  I hate the login but it seems to be a pretty good bank.  We use chase more than anything tho and they have a great military plan.  USAA has great insurance rates tho so if you plan to use them for insurance I believe you get a discount for using their bank too not sure tho so double check....

I'm in San Diego now.  It's really hard out here depending on where you are coming from.  It is a whole different life out here.  Areas to stay away from are National City, Logan heights, areas I love and that are awesome is La Mesa, and oceanside.  We are moving into pomerato terrence.  Military housing is not hard to get out here most are a one month wait.  Everything else is way super expensive out here, water bills are high, and so are electric bills.  Good Luck and message me if you want any other info!!!

sailor41- After battle stations life is pretty good for them.  They have more free time, and a few more privlidges not much tho!!!  The week before that if they have completed everything that needs to be done, they are responsible for  helping the new recruits that are coming in and getting set up for graduation.  Battle stations 21 is a state of the art replica of a ship with working parts.  They are in there for 12 to 16 hours re-enacting situations that have really taken place on real ships in the past such as the USS Cole.  Follow this link to hear more about it

Desiree-   I personally do not know anything about the A school there, but what I can tell you is that I love Chicago and I am very jealous!!  Since you are used to the high prices of California (that I am not and now have to live with LOL)  that area should be very cheap to you.  I would stay on the outskirts of Chicago, but again you are used to city life so it is really not that different there.  I will tell you to take WARM clothes your in for a treat winter is wonderful LOL.  Above in the Discussions section I have posted about some networks that can help you find a place Lincoln military is for the base housing!!  Good Luck kiss Chi-town when you get there!!!

i got a few questions about boot.....

What are the last couple weeks of bootcamp like for the guys?
What is battle stations? and what does it involve?

Comment by Kac46047 on September 28, 2011 at 11:57am
Im pretty sure the A school needs to be 6 months or longer for a spouse to recieve housing relocationn money and opportunity to live on base. You can always move with your own means
