This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

Ive got a question for all you Navy wives :-) My husband will be going down to TX for his A school and i'm pretty sure it will be for 19 weeks. Is it possible to live on base during this time at A school? What are my options? Thanks!

I forgot about the culture shock... that can take some getting used to. You just need to learn what neighborhoods you don't belong in. I know this sounds silly, but sunglasses are my friend. Especially in a neighborhood I am unfamiliar with. I use the rule of thumb to never make eye contact with a stranger if I am walking or driving. And I agree with you about the beaches.... kinda gross! I won't even go swimming in the water here. I don't know if anyone has told you about this place. It is called Julian... its about an hour or so from the San Diego area. They have 'farms' where you can go apple picking and a main st type area with stores and resturaunts. It reminds me of a small midwestern city. Right about now is the perfect time to go there and pick apples : ) It might take your mind off of the 'congestion' of so cal living for a while. And your son would probably have an absolute ball!

LOL see snow is something I am used to so that would never be a problem to me.  Although I do not prefer winters.  Imagine a country setting with no traffic, no violence, no scary neighborhoods, no creepy crawlers, fresh waters, and beaches that do not stink.  That is just what I am used to I am not used to such diversity and culture either.  I am enjoying it don't get me wrong I am just scared as well. The weather is perfect out here, I just have to get used to my area is all.  Plus I miss my family greatly!!!!  Thanks for the boost though I do appreciate it.

Skell- Southern California isn't that bad : ) I have lived here my entire life... I am SO scared that once my husband enlists and finishes BC and his school we will get stationed somewhere outside of Cali. I told him if we have to move somewhere where it snows a lot I am not going to get a job. Lol I just can't deal with that! There are a lot of things to keep you busy in the San Diego area. You could always come a little North and visit Disneyland : ) We go there like once a week to walk around the park and people watch. Cali does have a pretty fast paced lifestyle, but you will adjust eventually. Let me know if you need any ideas of things to do.... I live in the LA area, but we have friends all over the place so we do a lot of things.

We are estimated to be here for 5 years, but I am not sure I will want to live out here for that long.  I don't hate it yet I'm just used the the northen life style I mean I have lived in Michigan my whole life, so what a change.  We get our place soon I cannot wait!!!!

lol traffic here is horrible as well but i avoid rush hour. I know my husband says the 10 min drive to base is 45 mins in the AM. Theres one downfall to VA, ive never moved osmehere where it takes 2 weeks to get internet and phone. Ridiculous thats why i havnt updated sooner lol.

How many years are you in cali for?

That's awesome Kac I've been wondering where you have been!!!!!  I wish we would have went there instead of out here....  I miss the east coast something terrible.  It is so busy here all the time it takes 20 minutes to drive 5 minutes I hate it..  Maybe we will move there when we are done here...  Good Luck to you and it's good to hear from you....

Finally moved to VA with my husband, its been great here so far. The Dity move was a little tough. We are in housing and love it! Im liking norfolk  so far, its nothing like people decribed it. Lots of things always going on.

My husband got is hard orders about a month before graduation, luckily he had another school right after for a month that let us has a couple weeks to prepare a move.
