Advice for new spouses

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

We use Chase I love them!!!  They have military accounts there and they are easy to use.  I have used Bank of America before and 5/3d bank and I hate them both.  Chase has a great App for the phone where I can transfer money rigth from the phone and I do everything online.  I don't know if Chase is in your area, but that's what I would recommend.  K

Ok well when did he leave for bootcamp???  What you need for Navy Federal Access Number.  It comes on a little paper blue card along with his I.D. # which is the last four of his soc. and P.W now the password is a four digit number K. Just communicate through letters you should get the blue card in the mail.  Maybe you can guess the other stuff LOL  Keep your head up.... I'm sure everything will work out!!!  I wish you the best let me know if I can help in any other way!!!  K

Well thank you both very much. I do not have the information to get on the online account. I am very panicky. We've never been apart and have never not had money so not being able to pay bills and stuff is scaring me. I would also hate not to be able to afford to go to his graduation. I just need to know how to gain access to that account or get money sent from that account to ours that we have here. I'm just frustrated with him and the Navy right now.

If you have the information to get into the account online than just do that and transfer money to your account or pay straight from that account. If you guys live together all the information should be sent to your house. I think you may be panicky and over thinking a little and I say that just because we have all been there not being able to call and talk to them really messes with our minds. So take a deep breath and think of ways you can get around this and handle a bad situation on your own. I've said it before everything that could have went bad while he was gone did, but I made it through it and so will you

Newyoungnavywife-they won't let him talk to you what they do is get a message to him immediately. I haven't used it so I'm not quite sure what kind of message or how they allow him to communicate back. Check out the fb page skell posted below, it has info for how you can get in touch with rtc. You can email or private message them on fb they may be able to help you figure out what to do.

He got navy federal once he got to boot camp because that is what his recruiter suggested. He keeps sending me the information about it but my name is not on the account. I usually handle our finances because he's not very good with that sort of stuff. So I'm thinking he has no idea what he's doing. I have no idea what to do because I have a car payment due in a couple of days. Will he get in trouble if I call the red cross and he has to talk to me? Will they let him talk to me?

They are not allowed gambling paraphernalia in boot camp so that is a no!!!  LOL  I sent my hubby a musical card that recorded us and he did not get into any trouble.  It was for his birthday we recorded us singing Happy Birthday.  But yeah just stick to the basics and remember any "naughty pics" they may keep and not give him just an FYI (not saying anyone would LOL)

New young wife-  As far as the bank account if you are not on it than you may not use it.  If you have a debit card you may be able to pull money out.  Your first few checks will be really small, but it will all catch up in the system and as stated before you will get back pay.  If it comes down to an emergency meaning your lights will be cut off or your car towed or being kicked out of your home things like that you can contact the Red Cross to get in touch with him and help you figure this all out.  My car broke down while he was in and after I got it all fixed I got a letter two days later from him telling me I could have contacted Red Cross.  LOL  Is it Navy Federal???  Did he set the account up when he got to boot camp or used one he already had??????

Pinkstang- First week was horrible then I was OK but the last few weeks were the worst because it seemed like it drug on forever.  It will be fine just check in with us once in a while for some awesome support!!!!!!

ATI wife-  From my own experience if he already signed the papers you should be fine, but double check.  If not if you have POA then no he does not if you don't then yes.  Hope this helps!!!!

Stick simple for bootcamp. Letters, (non musical) greeting cards, and pictures. If you feel the need to be more helpful, maybe send stamps or a phone card. If he has contacts, I've heard you can send them to him for him to wear for graduation.

Other than that almost everything else you send will most likely be confiscated and/or he'll get a ton of crap for.

Save the care packages for A school/deployments. :)

I wouldn't. 99.999% chance he wouldn't get to keep it.
