Advice for new spouses

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

skell-Thank you for being so transparent about how you are feeling (also that you know the "lying to you" is in your head)...because what you are feeling...every military wife feels!

My husband has included me in EVERYTHING he does...I am ashamed to say that many, MANY times I was ungrateful about it.

I felt like I was in the "backround", didn't really matter much, had no identity, EVERYONE just wants a piece of me, huge amounts of boredom....

What I finally got ...THIS year, after 27 years AF reserves and 29 years law enforcement, was the fact that he cares enough, loves me enough, NEEDS me to be there. I FINALLY got it into my thick head that when he once told me early on in our marriage that "everything I do is for you" , he meant it. Even when he is away from me or going to a school to better himself or deployed...yes it certainly benefits him...but it also is to make me proud of him. He wants to better himself FOR me. I am his partner...the other half of the leadership of this team...fireteamleaderwife!

Do I screw it up?...every d*** day. I have to get on my knees and thank God that he is here...that he STILL wants me around (LOL)!

Have I thought what you thought? You betcha! When you are this stressed, in limbo, discouraged, afraid of the future, exposed to "things" happening around you that you just plain would rather not be...it opens the door for incorrect thinking.

Remember who you are, remember who you married (or are going to marry).

(BTW just in case those of you who don't know me-we also have a Navy son-that's how I know skell!)

Hang in there ladies and keep talking to each other and lifting each other up! Your in my prayers!

Amanda-  It is a process, but it is not too bad.  It is just a matter of getting all the paper work.  You have to of course prove that you are married and what not, but you can just go get married once he is in A-school.  As for living with him since you were not married before he left for bootcamp the Navy will not pay for your first move, but you can live with at any time that is just paperwork too LOL!!!  It's all about waiting and paperwork.  Don't worry it will all work out.

LMS85- I think fireteam has some great advice.  One source also offers things like that.  They are soothing and really do help.  My problem is staying off the computer LOL, but pills really do help.  I use some allergy pills, or something with a night aide in it.  I usually go over the counter just because they are not as strong.  Night Quill too LOL.  Sometimes it's nice to just relax and not think.

Shock- I know it is hard I understand.  Come and visit him sometime there are tons of fun things to do here there are cheap hotels too.  Like I said earlier this all about waiting that is no joke.  It will work out in the end.  Good Luck if you need us we are here!!!!
