Advice for new spouses

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

Hi! I'm not actually a Navy spouse yet but will be in the next few months, and thought that this group could be helpful on my journey to that, and of course afterwards as well! My boyfriend is in boot camp right now, today is a week since he left and I am still waiting for his form letter so I can start sending him all the letters I've written, and of course so I can get his PIR date so I know when I get to see him again!

lol Grandma, i watch the show and i got scared, i know my husband has a chance of working with a SEAL team documenting photos and videos , so i told him if that ever happeneds just to lie to me. I dont want to know anything

I really needed a laugh today. NewNavyWife and Kac you helped a lot! About a month ago either the Military or Discovery channel played nothing but SEAL shows all week. The "Secrets of SEAL Team 6" is a new show. I myself don't like TV shows sharing anything that might jeopardize our SEALs. Ticks me off. I walked through the house that week giving the TV my opinion. Of course I was talking to myself since it couldn't answer me back ... :-)  NewNavyWife, I too am cornered into watching shows like that and we've been married 47 years. There are certain things I prefer not to know. I don't think I've told anyone I refuse to read Marcus Luttrell's book. I know the story, I don't want the details.

I got a call yesterday from my husband and he still said he wants to do SEAL's so I will be on the same page as you when that happens. Just think positive that I keep doing and remind him that you will be there to stand by his side through any situation.

Denise, that is amazing. Kudos to you for being able to handle that with kids, too. That's awesome. How did you do it? I'm assuming you couldn't talk for the majority of the time he was gone. . . was he spec ops?  It's extremely hard to support even though it's the only option I have. Losing him just isn't a choice.

Okay kt. Now I understand. You're past the most difficult part and know up front what the future involves. I honestly don't know whether they do or don't encourage marriage. My guess is they don't due to their rigorous schedule but it's certainly attainable and does work for those who are prepared to accept the life.
