Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

I had never been here before either.  Yes there is a huge bridge to get to coronado.  and yes it is VERY expensive to live on the island gas is 4.35 a gallon there where it is 389 everywhere else.  That is where my  hubby is working.... We are about 20 minutes which is only like 10 miles from base and it was a great choice.  We are in base housing which is the easiest to do by the way and saves a ton of money (no deposits are required)  It is great we have community events and everyone is super nice and I feel safe.  Basically from what I have noticed any neighborhood on the outside of a base is horrible, and scary....Chula vista is nice, so is Mira Mesa.  Good luck!!!

Thanks Britt! That's why I want to spend some time out there before we move, so I can look around and find an area I feel comfortable in, not feel rushed to just find somewhere fast! I have never even been to California so this will be quite the adventure to me!

I have only been down to the SD area bases once and from what I remember they are all pretty close to eachother. Although, to get to the Coronado one you do have to go over the bridge or south of it I believe to get there. (don't quote me on these exactly... I get kinda turned around.. in the LA area the beach is South of us and not West like SD... lol) Coronado is so cute and charming, but I have heard it is really expensive to live there. I think the better areas to live off base are either North or East of the bases. The further South you go, the closer you get to the Border.... and that to me would be scary. I have heard a lot of people living in the Pacific Beach area of San Diego. Its like a little surfer/beach town.

Thanks for the advice! It doesn't hurt to ask the worst they can do is say no, and we were expecting to have to pay for it all ourselves anyway :) You know, I'm not too sure which base exactly because we'll be there for A school. I don't think he knows exactly which base either, he should be getting his A school orders next week or the week after though. Actually I wasn't even aware there was more than one base there! That's definitely what I'm worried is the neighborhood. Safety is my biggest concern over price or anything else, especially since we won't be married until after he's out there he won't be able live with me right away until he gets his live ashore approved.

Yeah we had to stay in a hotel for a week here not cheap $400 and that was a sort of crappy hotel.  It's crazy out here. I'm not sure if he will get it because you are not married, but have him ask anyway because we got reimbursed for 10 days of hotel it's called looking for an apartment time or something.  He can also request 10 days to search for a hotel and that doesn't go against his time off days.  What areas will you be looking in??  Well I should ask what base will he be in??  We are in Scripps Ranch and I love it here it's a great neighborhood and that is rare around here...

Thanks skell! I will definitely be getting in touch with you as it gets closer... I am moving Dec. 27 (he will already be out there) and will be flying out Dec. 9 to look for apartments and try to get things settled so it will be something less to worry about when I am out there! Also I am not leaving my job until Dec 23 and I work in a hotel, so I'd rather get all of that taken care of while I can get a hotel for the week fairly cheap!

Wow you ladies are alive LOL!!!  Aubon I'm in San Diego don't forget...I'm so excited for your wedding how fun!!  I loved my wedding we did everything really cheap too.  In my area the VFW hall was only 50 bucks to rent and we bought all of our own food and our family cooked it in the kitchen there it was so nice I personally did not want to skip out on my dress so that was something that cost the most, but all together without my dress our wedding was like $2000 it was awesome!!!

Justins-  Times like this are extremely hard.  Everyone handles their emotions differently.  Everything has to be unexpected in the military as they are always changing their plans along with everyone elses.  Just always rememeber it's not his fault.  and actually school being extended is awesome because that is more time stateside or not on a deployment. So he may not have anytime off for the holidays, but at least he will be "home" as to where my hubby will be gone for his first deployment.  Sometimes it's best to look at the advantages instead of the disadvantages.....  Just stay positive once you get married and settled life starts to even out. K  As for wedding plans what do you need to know???

A wedding is a wedding! My husband and I wanted to get married at the courthouse and when I told my mom this... she looked like she was going to hysterically start crying! So we decided to have the 'big' wedding. We got married on June 6, 2009 and my sister got married September 6, 2009! It was a crazy 3 months. A wedding is what you make it out to be. My husband and I pretty much did everything ourselves. We got married in the church where I went to pre school and then had our reception in a vacant wharehouse that we had decorated. One of our favorite italian resturaunts catered and it was just like a big beautiful party. My sister on the other hand spent THOUSANDS!! of dollars to have hers at a country club and the whole nine yards. It was beautiful, but I couldn't see spending all that money on one day.

I like your colors! They will be perfect for that time of the year :) I'm sorry your mom can't be there, but that is a really nice way to include her in your big day. My grandma passed away before I got married and I wrapped her necklace around my bouquet. That way she could be there in spirit.

Alot of people think this is crazy, but I had a craigslist wedding. We saved SO much money! I got my shoes, veil, tiara/headband thing, cameras for the tables, decorations for the wharehouse, garland, lights. I got my shoes and veil from a girl who had bought 3 of everything and didn't end up using them. The shoes were about $10 and veil was $5!! You should really look into it... start looking now and you will save a ton of money :) Let me know if you have any questions... I have been in 5 weddings in the last 2 years!! I have found out a ton of info. And I have learned how to save a lot of money :)

Hello everyone!
Just to give you guys a little bit on my story, my sailor and I first started the process of joining the navy in about September of 2010. He actually left for bootcamp August 16 2011 and just graduated October 14!!!yaaaay! We also got engaged in December, and I have yet to really start planning anything because since he has started A school we keep receiving disappointing news his training which was originally said to be 7 weeks ending on December 11. Now it's been said it's going to last 6 months without holiday leave. This all so new to me and I need advice on how I should start planning the wedding and also staying positive for my sailor. I feel awful last night he told me that he wouldn't be getting any holiday leave as well as he will be in training 3x as long and he could tell in my voice I was upset, and he says you can't do that to me..........I feel so bad and so selfish right now.

What do I do??? Helpp
