OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE. I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey. Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process. My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we. It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join. I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way. This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general. My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now. We have a 3 year old son. Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on. I am here to help!!!! I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

1)Get the marriage license for the county your getting married in. The rules may be different if you get married in a state you dont reside in. (For me I live in Pa got married in MD but i had to get married in the county we got the license) Most places require a waiting period (some dont) so check into that cause i dunno how long your thinking for flighing out for, typically i thnk its 3 days.

2) After you get married your husband should file all the paperwork needed for marriage like adding you to his page 2. This i think just notifys command that he is now married and has a depended (correct me if im wrong) That also makes it possible for you to be on his orders if he gets restationed and BAH should start ( I still havn't started recieving BAH yet but its only been a month so should kick in soon).

3) yes you can get a Mil Id at any base that has a card center, I went threw a debocle with my Id so others may have better insight. I went to an NSA Navy station by my house. They made it so easy all i needed was my social, Id and marriage license. My husband was there with me to sign. Now all i need to do is go back there after i change my name which should be painless. Also thanks for that make an appoinment reminder, came in handy

Comment by sbchick01 on July 5, 2011 at 7:21am: Hey, I have some questions. My sailor is coming back from deployment and in a few weeks we plan on going to the courthouse to get married. I have questions about what paperwork needs to get done. Like what forms, for both the military part of it and the non-military part. Also, can i get my military ID at any base, since we may not have enough time to get me one when I fly out to see him? This just kinda jumped up on us about getting married so soon cause we thought we had time for the ceremony but he is going to deploy again when we had it planned, so i am just very confused right now and just need help with what needs to be done. thanks a bunch!

I am not 100% since we did all of our stuff while he was in boot camp, so I will check for you, but you should be good. All they need is his soc # anyway. I am glad you got it what did you have to do???

Comment by skell456 (AO wife) on July 3, 2011 at 6:04pm: I agree you will get the information packet first before a letter they get to write a little hello in the bottom of it then after you get that you should get a real letter. Send lots of pictures also friend the the bootcamp page on facebook they update you and put pictues up I found my husband in two of them it was really exciting!!!!

Comment by skell456 (AO wife) on June 30, 2011 at 1:27am: Lovingwife- Navywife is right you will get the form the only other advice I give is to make sure you call the facility you will go to to get your I.D. before you go to make sure you do not have to have an appointment. I did not drove 2 hours and had to beg for them to do it and they were not happy. Health insurance starts the day he starts bootcamp all you need is his Soc number if you are going somewhere just let them know you don't have your I.D. yet if you need to go before you get it. After that all you will need is your I.D. Children 10 and under use yours as well. There is no medical cards I have went to two emergency visits, couple doctors visits as well as the pharmacy and it has all went through with no problem. Just make sure your doctor accepts Tri care. Good Luck I know it seems long, but it will go by fast!!!!
