This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

Welcome Nuke mom glad to have you!!!!!  Kac, have you tried to go to a Navy base?  Try contacting the recruiter your husband had for more information about where you can go.  I called my husbands about 5 times while he was in boot camp. They are always there to help.   P-cola wife when we did all of our paper work we need our birth certs even our sons, soc security card, and our marriage lisence so I would say yes take it there and let them make copies.  Thank you FTLW all your info was very helpful even to me :)

Also, JAG should be able to do a POW. For free.

When my DH was activated (he is a reservist) he got a general POW-it covers evreything...and nothing! LOL. Most places accepted it...simple stuff though like verizon etc. BUT when it came to Pay issues...they wanted a Special POW covering Pay issues and taxes specifically. It's stupid...I talked to legal and they explained that the general POW is "so powerful" that that is why some financial institutions won't accept it. Logically, I could be an ex or unhappy spouse waiting to clean my husband out...so that's why the special.

He was able to get a Special POW where he is stationed in the AE and mailed it to me.

I would have him talk to legal to find out exactly what they want.

My husband has always had to be there in order for us to get ID (we are AF) But then we are reservists so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I take it back on the simple stuff- the POW does work...I recently went to our base to get a will made (suddenly felt the need before flying to PIR!) and got it no problems. Plus, it's done gratis...have to take the opportunities where we can!

Hes stationed on an army base i dunno if they do anyhting different and i went to an army base by my house. Ill let you know how it works out, hopefully he can get it done friday if not i may just go geta a power of attorney, i didn't realize how easy that would be lol. For some reason i ws thinking lawyers and i didnt wanna go down that route lol

Power of attorney is not hard to get either.  Just so you know for future reference.  All you should have to do is download and print one off the internet then take it to a bank to get notarized.  And again that is all we had to do in Michigan, but I do not think it is much different here.  You can also go to your library and they should have books there you can make copies out of that should also work.  I hope this helps a little.  :(

Oh man that is terrible.  I'm sorry you are having to do all this.  I personally didn't have to have him there just the signed paper.  Are you near pensacola????  I think that is what you said.  If none of that works than maybe try a different base or something I can't imagine having this much trouble.  Let me check into a few things and get back with you.  Keep me informed on when you get it though ok.  I had to drive 2 hours for mine too, but that was in Michigan.  I believe you should get back pay for the BAH I am not sure.  One thing I have figured out so far is that they will do nothing unless you ask.  Like my husband was told at bootcamp that he made E3, but when he got here they had no paper work for that so he had to hunt it down and figure it all out himself or they told him he would have to wait 9 months to get E3 he fought for it and got it.  So my point is do not sit by with anything use your voice (to a point) and let them know you haven't forgotten even if they have.  Good luck hun I know it is frustrating.

skell so i had the husband sign the paper send and send it to me. I went ot the id card office and they said i needed a power of attorney from him to do the paper work without him! ugh i know this isnt how it is any other place. My husband even tried to go by himself and they need proof of my identity the license wasnt enough, so i sent him my college ID and other idenfication and hopefully that will work. The card office closes at 3 and he can only get there if he skips lunch and i live 2 hours away. Its bad enough his command kept mispelling my dads name so the marriage paper work just went in so we havnt recieved BAH even though we've been married a lil while now. Soooo frustrating lol

yeah its either during his A school or christmas on leave. and can someone answer tht question please?
Comment by skell456 (AO wife) on June 26, 2011 at 8:16pm
What a good question.  From what I understand it is way too hard to get married the time following his PIR.  There is so much going on during that time, and it is nice not to have to rush too.  I am not even sure they can during that time, but if he is staying in A-School there it is best to wait.  You can get married during A-school.  I wouldn't wait for leave unless you want family there or something. The sooner the better so you can start recieving benefits and other things.
