Advice for new spouses

Hello, everyone my name is Amanda. Thank you for joining this group! I have recently went through the whole process of becoming a PROUD NAVY WIFE.  I am starting this group to help all the new spouses on your journey.  Ask me anything!!!!

This is especially for wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, or fiances.

Everyone has a different experience throughout this whole process.  My husband started signing up in July of 2010 and did not leave for bootcamp until March 29th 2011, so we have pretty much been through a lot this last year and I would love to help everyone that I can understand things that I did not when we first started. He is now in the middle of A-school and I guess so are we.  It has not always been fun, but it is worth it in the end. I say this is especially for spouses becuase pay, and things like that are different for us, but mom, dads and anyone else is more than welcome to join.  I look forward to hearing from everyone, and hope that I can help you along the way.  This page is for newly married about to get married, or just being a new Navy spouse in general.  My husband and I have been together 6 years and married over 2 years now.  We have a 3 year old son.  Watching the children go through this is very difficult because they do not fully understand what is going on.  I am here to help!!!!  I have lots of ideas and experiences to share!!!!

As soon as you are enrolled in the DEERS and all the paper work is done, and filed the program is automatic from I understand. I haven't recieved a card or anything from Tri care I'm not sure that you do I just use my military I.D. and it works fine I have used it at the emergency room, doctors visits, and a few different pharmacies.  Children under 10 just use your I.D. I can just say that the day James left for bootcamp our insurance started.  So you may have a small gap just so the paper work can be properly filed.  Hope this helps!!!!

FTLW I'm so glad your here!!!!  I would love all your insight on all of this.  It is nice to have people who have been or are going through deployments and things.  Any help is much appreicated.  KAC all you need from him is his signature on the paper.  They do not have to be there for you to get your I.D. you just need the form and it signed by him you can find the form at

http://images.military.com/Resources/Forms/DD_1172.pdf

and get all the information you will need at

http://www.military.com/benefits/resources/identification-cards

let me know if this does or doesn't work K

Question ladies, did any of you get married during A school? My husband is having such a hard time getting all the paper work done to get my my mil ID and get my on his insurance. Its been about a mouth now with no progress because his school ends at 5 and so does all the offices. Can i do any of this paper work myself? Basically all they know right now is that he is married, which is good cause orders are starting to come out

Hello Ladies!

Thank You skell for inviting me!

I am actually a Navy MOM...BUT I am an Air Force Reservist Wife. My son just recently went through BC with skell's DH. I have been an AF GF/wife for 25+ years. My DH's REAL job is in Law Enforcement. While not military, it does have rank and file...and it's own form of OPSEC! LOL!

We have been through two deployments (in the second one right now!) so I know a little bit about active duty life...but no where near as much as those of you going through it day to day.

I am reading a lot of good books on deployment etc. as it has been much laid on my heart this year to be of service to other wives in the military.

I would love to be of help in any way that I can and also learn from you all as I have stayed on this site as a "veteran" helping out each PIR group that comes along.

Blessings on all your marriages!

It is forms DD 1172 and/or DD 1173 for dependents.  He has to enroll you in the DEERS program right away in order to get into Tri-care I believe.  Double check I am not sure since he is already through bootcamp.  Where are you from because in Michigan you cannot get them at any base most have stopped doing it.  I had to drive two hours then no one told me I needed an appointment first so I had to beg for it to be done.  Thankfully they did so just double check and call ahead just to make sure.  Your children only need one if they are over the age of 10 from what I understand. Kac I hope you get to go.  Most places have hotels that rent weekly or monthly so keep that in mind just to get started it isn't so bad LOL...
