They have air bases in different locations so the pilots can be trained to fly over all different types of terrain... lakes, desert, mountains, water... That and the government tends to locate bases where there are not big towns nearby so they do not disturb residents with the noise... then again those jets are the sound of freedom!!

Hello Cody's wife... I live in Seattle and have a sailor stationed at Whidbey. We have a discussion on the WA/OR moms group here... join us there! Lots of people stationed there and lots of moms with sailors there and we chat all the time! Welcome to Whidbey! Great small island with big city close enough to visit!

Lemoore is a Navy Air Base... they have lots of training/school squadrons and also some squadrons that are stationed there. Squadrons are located on their own bases and deploy with ships or to land.

For example... In Virginia-- Norfolk is where the ships are.... Oceana is the air base. In Washington-- Everett and Bremerton is where the ships are... Whidbey is where air base is.

Squadrons are assigned to various ships... if the squadron is west coast based
it does not mean they will be based with a west coast ship. Some squadrons are set up for land based operations. All depends on the needs of the Navy and the type of equipment that they have.
